I’m confused about the new M+ gear system. Can anyone summarize in a few bullet points what’s going on?
(apologies for logging on classic toon it’s all I could get in with today, somethings weird with the authentication or something)

Crests from mythics now drop from overworld content and mythics.
Gear type veteran, champion, etc will depict which crests you need.
Crests vary on difficulty (IE: Drake crests drop from normal raid and M+ 6-10 keys for veteran and champion gear)
oooh, it’s the same gear you bump in the cavern content with those things that you collect pieces of? I totally didn’t realize this. Wow, that’s a switch.
All gear is now upgradable instead of just m+ gear, with no rating requirements to upgrade stuff. What you mainly need now are one of the four crests (whelp, drake, wyrm, aspect) and flight stones. You get flightstones by doing almost anything, and you get crest fragments depending on the level of content you’re doing.
Check out icy veins for a flow chart. They simplified it pretty well for people to understand
Yeah, they basically added upgrade tiers to all PvE gear drops (well expect mythic raiding as I believe that is at the max upgrade ilvl already). This way world quest and raiding gear can be upgraded as well, instead of it just being mythic+ only. Now instead of valor, you spend flightstones and crests to upgrade gear. The cost and which type of crests depends upon the level you are upgrading to. Crests are earned thru doing content, with the higher tier content rewarding the higher versions.
If there is some way to do the set conversion thing, I haven’t stumbled on it yet, but I do like being able to convert to set pieces.
There will be a system to convert non tier armor into tier versions, it typically is not enabled for like 8 weeks after the season starts. Keep in mind that if you are looking for the tier set bonuses, you need to convert armor parts that actually give the tier set bonus. So doing something like a cloak will not count towards unlocking the tier set bonus.
Yes, I don’t get why any piece can’t be set piece but I accept that’s how it’s designed. I always get cloaks and wrists in my weekly vault, maybe that’s why; it limits “easy sets”
The crests = primal focus, but has 4 levels mimicking raid levels.
Flightstone = valor and primal chaos kind of together.
You use a bunch of flightstones and a crest together to upgrade an item the crest works with. It’s much more complicated in writing than in practice.
The whole point is to basicslly pace yourself. The tiered armor can be maxed out and allows yoi to hit the next tier and eventually be able to do the high end content like 15+s
Explorer-Adventurer-Veteran-Champion
Takes time to do but allows you to steadily pace yourself as there are a handful of ways to get the gear.
I’ve gotten 3 or 4 champion pieces just from weeklies and rares in the caverns
