This is not a complaint thread, curious about people’s opinion.
In Legion, Blizzard intentionally gave end game rewards for running heroic dungeons. This led to a situation where joining a heroic at a low level had a good chance that you would have a carry in your group.
It seems like this is what’s going on with low level mythic plus dungeons. Because of the valor bonus incentive, high rating players are carrying low keys.
How does everybody feel about this? It seems like as a new player, your experience starting mythic plus would be very bizarre. You’re not actually interacting with the dungeon and the way that it was designed. You are sort of just watching somebody smash the entire dungeon and your contribution is optional.
On the other hand, it’s kind of nice that you have a low failure rate with veteran players in the group.
What is everybody’s opinion on this? Do you think that the incentive structure should be changed so that similar rating players are in the low keys?
This will improve with the new gearing system. Valor farming low keys won’t be a thing.

Are you sure that’s the case? From the interview, it seems like you get currency based on the high watermark that you have achieved.
So if you’ve only done mythic fives, you will get currency that can upgrade gear to the level that mythic fives reward.
But if you’ve got CE, doing a low level key will give you some higher currency.
Maybe I’m wrong.
You will get currency but you won’t get the higher crests unless you complete the higher levels. So doing low level dungeons will not be all that valuable since the base currency will be readily available from doing any content.

The item has to come from a +17 or higher to even be able to be upgraded to the highest quality.
This new upgrade system puts an end to exactly what you are complaining about.

Why does it matter? If someone wants to farm valor and another person just wants a key or two completed for a chance at gear prior to the patch matter?

That’s why I’m asking. I’m curious about people’s opinions.
I feel like this has been argued to death. I’m glad to see it gone in 10.1.

From the perspective of over gearing low keys: To be honest, it’s nice to be able to queue for some content that’s not hard and still progress my character. It may not be as time efficient, but losing that is a big bummer.
From the perspective of an alt: it’s nice to not have my 4s feel like 15s on my main sometimes when gearing up. I don’t feel as throttled on the catch up gearing to everyone’s mains. The new crest system means I’m running 4s with other people that need 4s. So we’re operating at the appropriate gear level, and it’s going to be frustrating when you brick a low key because the group just isn’t there yet.
The silver lining: guildies and friends can still help. So this only impacts the pug scene really.

Play with other peoples alts. Download raider IO and look at their main IO when inviting to keys. Solves that problem.
Yeah true. Always a way to mod myself out of a corner lol!
Id argue any form of carry is bad and a flaw in game design to let them be as powerful. The content at low level of m+ is easy enough to be completed without that.
Id rather they put higher renown gear reward than make it works that way. Or that they add some sort of gearing content like visions in 8.3 were if the goal is to give more ways to get gear upgrades.

In my opinion a system that encourages fishing trivial content for high end rewards is bad system.
Others may disagree.

Yeah I can see that. Imagine explaining the valor farm system to a new player that just got their first M+ key.

That’s a good thing.
Imagine if you just dinged 70 and you want to start Mythic dungeons, but everybody’s currently running 18+.
If it wasn’t for the bonus valor, you’d be out of luck and you’d probably be waiting in group finder for HOURS.
This is the best solution for M+ players that either have alts, or just started playing endgame.
It’s not a carry, it’s more of a catch-up system that rewards highly geared players for helping low geared/fresh 70s.

How can you seriously say it isn’t a carry?
Also, alts and people starting up would group with other alts and others starting up. Just like we did before valor was uncapped.

No shot. It doesn’t take hours to fill a key with only alts. Lots of people are playing alts. Maybe you have to play an 11 instead of a 13 but that’s no sweat if you’re early in your gearing.
Nope, it just baits ppl to do lower levels

I’m glad it’s going away. You pretty much AFK’d until the dungeon was done or else you’d die from all the damage.
I don’t mind having geared people join my alt’s keys and smash the place
