"Is this your main toon?"

Just curious- has anybody else gotten a whisper from other players asking if you’re playing your “main toon”? It’s happened to me a few times since launch, though the person asking is always different and there seems to be no real pattern… just random.

Also, whenever I ask why they want to know, they go silent and don’t respond.

I’m just a bit confused and not sure what that’s all about.

Nope.

A few “come tank this thing you have zero interest in tanking for people you don’t know.” A “gtfo bot” /spit when I was AoE grinding Bog Giants on the mage. A few messages from mages selling boosts for some reason.

But never someone asking if I was playing my main.

Maybe just people wondering if I’m a bot. I was actually farming bog lords just now when I was asked again.

Odd.

As long as it’s not gold farmers looking to hack my account… lol

I buff people, jump around, and emote if they stand around for a bit. Yet still get the accusations.

Maybe the people asking you are just nicer about it.

Today I got asked that on Pagle on my 67 paladin alt. Was a random whisper from a 70 paladin that I didn’t know (not even in the same zone as me either), this is the first time I had something like that happen.

Yup- same. I’m also on Pagle. I even did a character transfer from Mankrik to Pagle, and within 5 minutes of logging in to my transferred toon, I was asked. Same person that asked me earlier today.

I kept pushing them on why they wanted to know, I got ignored the first time, then they came back and asked again if it was my main toon, I asked again why it mattered and I was ignored again. I wonder if it’s not the same person that targeted us.

I ended up reporting the player and then blocking/ignoring them.

It might be a troll. If it was to catch botters they would probably be upfront about why as they might of mistook you for one. I wouldn’t put it past for a group of people to post “is this your main toon?” to annoy and fish for reactions.

You should try asking other people nearby if they get the same messages, surely you can’t be the only one they suspect of botting/trolling/etc.

Maybe this is the modern day “Is your refrigerator running?” gag. Now I want to know the punch line…

To be fair there is a ton of bots farming boglords in deadmire 24/7. I kill them every chance i get.

Have a “You do fastest speed of on boots 10 gold?” macro reply ready, and just hit it every time they message you.

Hilarity will ensue.

Two AH botters (shut your wordhole, they exist) on Sulfuras Horde both think my alts are actually the other guy and I’ll get passive-aggressive whispers from both of them when I’m in Booty Bay.

So bots are passive-aggressive now?

I have ask it some times, but mostly to dont gift gold to someone who doesnt need it. 100g can change the gameplay of a 30 ish level player and is like 2 talent reset to me.

I would venture to say that 5-10g at level 10 can have as much of an impact as 100g at level 30 to someone without a higher level toon on that server.

Yeah, but my idea is help them to get the mount (or recover from buying it). A lv 10-15 will get more from a dm/stock rush imo.

“Heal or tank this?”

“No, I’m ret. I’ll DPS!”

“Man, you’re so selfish. Reroll noob!”

Fair enough. I was just thinking along the lines of if all they have is a backpack and maybe one 6 slot bag, they will struggle to pick up all of that loot. Maybe give them some bags and a wand if it is a caster. Not trying to dictate/qualify generosity. All of these things can help each other and should be commended if you do any of it. I just remember back in the day when I first started a friend gave me 5g and told me I should buy a wand and maybe some small bags with it. It felt like he wasn’t playing the game for me but made a huge difference in my early experience. I guess the type of help may be appreciated differently from a veteran player on a new server vs a brand new player.

No joke, when I LFG on either my prot Pally or Warrior -while I’m in a group with guildies and we need to fill 2 spots- I have had people ask me to come tank for them instead.

I mean, really?

“Main toon” and “alt” are player-created concepts. They aren’t part of the game. There is not a single rule in WoW that is different for “main toons” and “alts”.

I’ve played WoW since 2004 (and MMOs since 2001) and I’ve never had a “main toon”. Instead I have always had “toons I am actively playing”. Sometimes that is 1 character. Sometimes that is 3 characters. But it changes, every month.
