Is this the worst writing in warcraft ever?

Yeah, I’m a minority, I know, but I cannot stand TBC for lore reasons alone. The whole “Kael’thas was a hero, and then he went to Outland and became a power-hungry lunatic” thing hasn’t sit well with me since it happened.

This. There is nothing stopping the Kyrian at all from just finding some afterlife in the infinite afterlives that would serve as a decent purgatory and stuffing all the souls there until stuff can get sorted. The archon has a brain dosen’t she? She could just say “lets do that.” and problem solved.

What they’re doing is the equivalent of continuing to operate a hydraulic press when puppies start showing up in the work queue just because your boss isn’t around to tell you not to put puppies in the hydraulic press.

I’m enjoying SL so far

With that said writing is pretty corny

Just the dialogue is cheesy in general and childish.

going “around” the system is against the purpose…

it’s like trying to swim against the tide expecting to beat it.

I’m not the one without sources. You know absolutely nothing about the lore. Try reading.

Planes , also known as dimensions ,[1] realms of existence [2] or simply realms , are cosmic regions within the Warcraft universe. Besides reality and its physical realm, six cosmic forces form the universe. All these forces push and pull against one another in an unending tug of war, constantly vying for power over each other. If one fell, all worlds would fall into chaos.[3][4]

And try listening and comprehending literally every major character in the expansion.

You’re the one making crap up, not me.

So glad people here don’t write this storyline. :woman_facepalming:t4:

I’m going to bed.

It is not the Kyrian’s job to cast judgement on souls. They are the ferrymen/women. That’s it. Their mandate is clear. Get the souls to Oribos, where they will be judged. Once the soul reaches Oribos, their job is over.

Even if they wanted to take the souls to Bastion, they couldn’t because the gateway wasn’t active before we got there, and as you’ve probably noticed, the Archon is a stickler for the rules, so she wouldn’t have permitted the Kyrian to ‘hold onto the souls in advance’.

Please, please tell me where it’s said the Kyrian pausing for a break or setting up a purgatory solution until things are figured out would destroy the shadowlands. Because you made that up. It’s not the case.

I love when people are ready with receipts!

Brava!

And yeah… the Kyrian are a creepy af cult.

Shame, because the zone and wildlife are gorgeous. Very soothing environment.

Get the souls to Oribos, where they will be judged

Exactly. They can’t do that right now. The thing to do in keeping with their mandate would be to wait until that’s possible.

Nope, again their mandate is just to get the souls to Oribos. Once the souls are there, their job is over.

Again, they couldn’t have held onto the souls even if they wanted to, because A. The gateway connecting Oribos to Bastion for soul transfer was not active before we got there and B. The Archon would not have permitted it in the first place as she is a firm believer in the Path, and doesn’t permit deviations from it.

BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO. THAT IS NOT THE KYRIANS PURPOSE. THEY DO NOT GET TO DETERMINE WHERE THE SOULS GO. BY DOING SO THEY WOULD BE DETERMINING WHERE THE SOULS GO AND THAT WOULD CAUSE A POWER SHIFT IN THE SHADOWLANDS.

Is it really that hard to understand?

I can’t tell if you’re joking or not.

“i was just following orders” isn’t a good look, you get why thats not a good look right?

but they know now, and they have the option now, yet they CHOOSE not to take it. or to work with the other covenants on a plan b.

so because the arbiter says its okay, that makes it better… somehow?

Confirmed today with renown 5 quest. You go with Kleia to ferry a soul to Shadowlands. You arrive in Oribos, where the soul goes down the Maw toilet. Kleia expressed shock not knowing the Arbiter was offline and that the soul was damned to the Maw as a result.

But… why don’t the Kyrians all know this? Are our characters utterly mute and unable to relay the fact that the Arbiter is offline and the Maw is gobbling everything up?

I had assumed souls just automatically pass on to the Arbiter sooner or later with our without Kyrians to ferry them. But this part really upset me.

How they can even fulfill their jobs when there’s a draught of anima on the entire of the shadowlands? the kyrians are draining their war machines and non essential mechanic things to use whatever they have left.

They can’t do their job…

This is another thing that makes no sense. Did the player just not say anything? And the Kyrians are all showing up in Oribos before the main quest is even over and you start the covenant quests. I guess they knew but no one bothered to tell Kleia, lol.

If they really HAVE to toss everyone in the maw toilet, why aren’t the brokers at least setting up nets with soulkeepers? Really, there’s no many ways to avoid this problem it’s hilarious.

Long post but the thoughts are essentially this.

I think your problem from all of this is that the difference between what is the Correct Thing to do and the Right Thing to do.

Well I think you answered your own question here.

The Kyrian are operating on something like a computer program. It doesnt matter if the soul gets damned, as souls could be damned to the Maw before. The Kyrian are merely the transportation to the correct realm.

With the Arbiter out of commission, the Kyrian’s current directive is to ferry any soul to the Maw.

I am not saying they should do it, but that is their job. The whole Kyrian covenant questline (haven’t done it, just speculation) seems to be about how the “old ways” arent always the best. I am sure by the end of this the Kyrian will still fulfillt their role, but will not just endlessly send souls to the Maw.

And you are free to think that. It does happen though in real life, social experiments are done to see just that. Bystander effect is a big one, if no one else is doing anything why should you?

While not exactly the same as the Kyrian the premise stands. The Kyrian are just sticking to what they have always done. Because they are sticking to their designated job (which is now clearly flawed) that caused other Kyrian to be doubtful of the Path.

So I would disagree that it is terrible because humanity does similar things. Individually, I am sure many Kyrian disagree, and as we see with Devos they betray the Archon, but since the Archon is not instructing them to anything different some just keep to the Path.

She is empowered by the Jailor. All the anima is being flooded to the Maw. Those that make deals/side with the Jailor get to partake of the power. Rest of the Shadowlands is starving.

Idk about that…

And going back to the Kyrian just following the Path, yes their decision to send the souls to the Maw instead is 100% the worst decision. The problem is it doesnt matter because they are made to ferry the souls, and the Archon hasn’t made any drastic changes to Kyrian workings so the flawed actions continue.

The actions of the Kyrians are 100% correct, all souls are being directed to the Maw so they send them there. However, the Kyrian’s actions are 100% not the right thing to do.

If I made any wrong lore implications feel free to correct, but the bolded part at the top still stands based on OP’s complaints.

dude, they would have the anima from the souls …

So the Kyrian should be a raid tier, not our friends. They’re automata or cultists directly helping the jailor.

You could present the Kyrian this way as unthinking forces in service to the purpose who simply do what they’re made to - we’ve had that before! Algalon. The Amathet.

you are right, what we are pointing out though is that the kyrian DO have a choice, we see it with uther and devos, and they are CHOOSING not to go against “the Path” or to finding a temporary work-around. they are CHOOSING to continue funneling innocent souls into the maw, strengthening the jailer, damning those souls to an eternity of torment, and continuing the anima drought.

at this point in the story, that makes them AT BEST collaborators with the jailer, and at worst it makes them traitors. in either case the kyrian are objectively the baddies right now (now future covenant chapters will probably address that, but that is where we currently sit lore wise and timeline wise)

at least the venthyr (who’s leader was actively working for the jailer) have a nascent rebellion already underway, and the necrolords are in full on civil war over some of their leaders turning traitor… when even the angry edgelords and the emo biteybois are a step ahead of you… wellllll…
