Is this Blizzard tweet tone deaf, rage bait, or both?

This post was shared in my discord and got mixed reactions, as you can see from the replies on Twitter as well. Is this funny and people are too sensitive or is Blizzard social media team missing the mark?

Blizzard can’t meme.

I’ll summarize the last comment from my discord “billion dollar company making fun of poor people is rage bait lol”

It’s just a post.

Yeah. Lots of posts on the Internet are just posts. Whodathunkit

As a millennial myself what’s there to negatively react to, the post is right!

Only succeed in my own home goal is cause I started saving early and spend within reason (still about 5 years to go!)

Players have been making this exact meme themselves (see: like 2 posts up, even) and laughing about it.
I think it’s absurd to consider this tone death OR rage bait.

People just get instantly annoyed when a company tries to be relatable even if they’d have liked it from another player.

Now, if Blizzard has a Real Estate Investment division and still made this post, people would be right to be up in arms over it. But they don’t. They make kind of ok video games sometimes.

Considering

  1. I am a millennial who has slowly gone through the grieving process at the idea of ever becoming a home owner, and

  2. A lot of people on the Dev team and likely social media team live with 1-3 roommates to make rent in California,

I would assume this is very much a hide the pain Harold situation.

Is a super wealthy company really relatable though?

No, it’s not, but it’s also not something to get worked up over. I’d rather have a social media PR guy trying to be interesting over corporate announcements on repeat.

What’s funny is that it was probably some dude in India that made that post because Microsoft layed off Blizzards entire online marketing department lol.

This was funny.

They immediately posted in their own thread

“Memes soothe the pain more than a Greater Heal.” Obviously most of the new team are Millennials and there has been a meme about this for years. This is their way at having some fun. You, and others, taking it personally is a byproduct of them poking fun at themselves.
