Is this a good gaming laptop?

Can some one well versed in tech specs tell me if I should get this laptop, if its a beast and will handle any games for the next 10 years at least in max settings? Thanks! (The manufacturer says its super good, but of course thats what they’d say, I trust you guys more).

It’s good but it’s overkill in some areas and lacking in others. There’s no reason for 64GB of RAM in a gaming laptop and then skimp on the video card.

Depending on what’s announced today by Nvidia I would wait. I’m guessing you’ll want a 3060 in place of the 1660. If you want it to last for years (ten is a stretch) then the 1660 isn’t what you want.

Is that video card good enough to handle anything out today at least and anything currently in development?

I see another similar priced laptop with a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060? Is that more future proofed?

New video cards are literally being announced today. If you’re spending over $1000 I’d wait and see what’s coming out very soon. That will be the best in terms of future proofing.

Ok, but If they’re being announced today, wont it be at least a year or more before we start seeing them in retail laptops? I’m not sure I can wait a year.

I would guess later this month or so. We may find out in a few hours.

I will wait, but for reference, is the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 6GB better than the other one, and decently future proofed?

Yes the 2060 is better, but the 3060 will be better than the 2060 and probably at the same price.

1 - if you believe the leaks, the desktop RTX 3060 will be $50 more than the desktop RTX 2060 was at launch ($349 vs $399).
2 - Currently it looks like Nvidia will be announcing the high end desktop cards (and it could be a paper launch). I’ve yet to see any news on the laptop versions.
3 - laptop GPUs are notorious for re-labeling old tech or using different chips then the desktop name sake.

Yeah it’ll be later than I thought. The RTX 2060 6GB is good but if you’re spending over $1500 you should make sure it has a RTX 2070.

Maybe this? 2070

There’s another one that’s a 17" and same specs but also comes with a 1tb hdd for $50 more @ Newegg.
