So here I am, trying to come up with an idea for a potential character to do some RP as. Having just finished reading all of the old Tintin comics (kudos if you remember those!), I’ve got the weirdest itch to make an intrepid reporter who tackles their stories much, much more directly, rather than sitting off to the side and getting the info that way. A character with a great excuse to join various RPs from various guilds, without having to be entirely tied to one specific guild.
My major concern about the idea would be: is there even any sort of newsprint going around in either faction? I don’t think I have it in me to come up with my own newspaper-based guild, and I really don’t want to try something like what Piper has going on in Fallout 4. I’m creative, but not THAT creative!
Is this a good idea in the least? Or am I just barking up a badly-thought-out tree?

I think it’s totally up to you. Can be as creative as you want and have as much fun with it as you want. RP is all about playing a character however you want them to be perceived in the world, to me it doesn’t seem as though there is a right or wrong way to do something like this. Use your imagination and have fun, if you aren’t enjoying it then just do something else. ![ ](https://d38bqls1q93fod.cloudfront.net/en/wow/images/emoji/twitter/slight_smile.png?v=12)
Okay. So. I know the name is both loved and hated. But moonguard alliance side does have an active reporter rp scene. Newspapers, gnews. Etc.
There is a history of journalist type RP on WrA. I’m not aware of any currently active guilds focused on such, but a character of the sort you have in mind would fit in well, even just as a backstory.
I just mentioned something about this a few days ago on my guild’s discord.
There used to be a guild called Horde New Network (HNN) that would use the Gryphon Heart Iteam addon to sell news reports to other players with the addon. The papers would have things like a summary of some other guild’s event, wanted ads for deviants in SMC, style tips, poems, recipes, and various sort of things.
I think now a days you don’t need a guild to be able to do something like this. I will like to see you try this idea out on Horde side!
Did someone say dumb character concept?
Its a good idea. We have people handing out fliers, both NPCs and Players, we have posters being put up everywhere, and letters. I’d say take it and run.
We have the technology to mass-print stuff, and the ability to manufacture immense amounts of paper in turn. Depending on the faction side of things, the Alliance would likely be more, well, likely, but Horde-side, the Forsaken, Sin’dorei, Shal’dorei and Goblins would all be hard-core into something like that.
Might also tie into a bit of intrigue because the reporters want the truth, and that might be inconvenient or even down-right troublesome to those in power, or those who have agendas that rely upon secrecy and half-truths.
“Exposed! Warlocks? In your basement! Its more likely than you think!”
And every Warlock in Stormwind is face-palming that their favourite bar is about to get flooded with Demon Hunters and Paladins again.
Well, I went ahead and started work on the character. It’s truly a pity Gryphonheart Items doesn’t work anymore; writing down the character’s experiences in a journal, and then writing up a big report about it, would have been awesome. Maybe there’s a replacement for GHI?
…Either way, if anyone Horde-side sees a Vulpera named Castafiore, that’d be the alt! Gotta level her up and get her a nice mog. If I can ever get off my butt to do it… z.z

There definitely is a replacement for Gryphon Heart Items. It is called Total RP 3 Extended. It allows you to make your own items, including books, and even add effects to them and all sorts of other mechanics as well if you like. You can see when looking at peoples’ TRP profiles if they have the addon installed, so if they did…these could be people that you could capitalize on walk-up RP with.
See the TRP3 Extended on their TRP3 Profile. Walk up to them IC, and ask if they would like to check out the newest issue of “blankety blank” gazette or whatever.
Doing this you could easily cultivate and curate a clientele of regular…subscribers. Which is exactly what lots of publications do anyways. Working with other guilds and RP groups is a great way to get help for free content ideas as well since their events and plotlines featured in your gazette is most of the meat and potatoes of your periodical. You just got to use your own creative spin to how you tell those stories to be the seasoning to this lovely dish you bring to the community.
Either way I am all for it, and think it is an amazing idea.

TRP3 Extended can do that? I’ve had it since I got back on here! Go figure…
Yeah I used to have all sorts of fun items I made. Some were Void Storage Bags that held other RP items. Some were cool items that played a sound effect, did an emote explaining my specific battle pet being summoned, and then would summon that battle pet.
I used that one to play a cool mechanical gizmo flying sound, and then it summoned my mechanical parrot, Pauly G. (a parody of the name Pauly D from Jersey Shore cause my parrot taught my Goblin how to lose his thick Kezani/Jersey Shore accent…however it inherited the accent himself. The G stands for Gnome because my Goblin got the designs for the bird from a Mechagnome. It also made the parrots name a funny numerical pun of the word polynomial combined with Parrots most often being named Polly).
You can actually make items and leave them on the ground as well. People can go to that location, search for RP items and pick them up. If you did a news article item you could have a static location in game around an NPC or just whatever fits your character where people can go to and collect the latest edition as well.
We used to have some Playgob Reading material Magazines as well as toilet paper and an item that would play fart noises all staticly stored at this Outhouse art asset in game that a few of my friends and I used. In character the Outhouse was actually an Elevator to my Goblin’s Office which was Underground. So he used to say he was “going to his office” and then go inside the port of potty which was a secret elevator. It was hilarious and we built the elevator all in game using an RP event. Unfortunately while trying to do construction someone used enchanting magic to conjure a golem made out of…eh…stuff related to an Outhouse. Then came the battle scene with said monster.
That sounds hilarious and awesome. And that’s good info to know. Just gotta learn how to make all that stuff happen myself…
