Is There Still a Way to Get the Amethyst Softshell?

In looking through some of the pets that I’m missing and could still acquire, I noticed I was missing the Amethyst Softshell, which should be a drop in Nazjatar.

I note however, that that ways people traditionally acquire this pet (as I read on Wowhead) have been changed. The Sea Spireshells no longer spawn at the Murloc Village and they are no longer placeholders for the Amethyst Spireshell that drops the pet. It seems that killing the Sea Spireshells now spawn the Prismatic Spireshells, which don’t seem to drop the pet.

Is there still a way to acquire this pet?

No. Gave up on it.

There were ways to improve your chances of getting the Amethyst Spireshell (which drops the pet) to spawn, such as clearing the Murloc village of the placeholders, but those placeholders have since been removed. This was all detailed on Wowhead.

So it seems now the only way to get it is to comb the zone, hoping this rare spawn has shown up somewhere. I’ve been trying for a few days, but I’ve never seen one.

But it’s okay. I haven’t seen a single strat that calls for this particular pet, so, just letting it go.

For me, the best pet from that zone is the Budding Algan. As a companion pet, it throws flaming lava bombs at low level critters , if they hang around longer than it cares for. Kills them too.
I lack several pets from that zone. I don’t lack that snail though, as a matter of fact, I have TWO of them. Figure out how/when to meet, and I’ll give you one of them, a lvl 1 Blue.

I saw the rare for it back about a month or so ago when I was farming something else. Don’t know what causes it to spawn though.

I have since found it twice, but no pet drop. Just manapearls.

Edit 1: Still haven’t gotten the pet, but I found a few very nice consolation prizes just today.

I was killing a rare and I found a Hippogryph vendor standing there. So, I went to check it out, thinking they sold some kind of mount. Instead, they offered undead Hippogryph pets.

Then when I was looking for a Amethyst Spireshell (which I think I killed six times to date), I notice someone fighting a rare, a King murloc. I forget the name. I dropped down and joined in and I only had time to cast two spells as it was very close to death, but it was enough to give me loot. And I got a red murloc pet. One with both Dazzling Dance and Lucky Dance.

Seems like a pet with useful possibilities to me.

And since today was Squirt day, I was easily able to level up everything.

So, still no Amethyst softshell, but what I did find was arguably much better.

Edit 2: I found the Amethyst Spireshell, but it didn’t drop the pet. According to Wowhead, it only drops about 11% of the time. Still, I lucked out in another way. I found the Raging Algan, and after three attempts to solo it (it recovers it’s self-heal faster than I can recover my interrupt), taking so long, I begged for help, and a 60 level Rogue came to help me.

We whittled that thing down to size in short order, and I got the Budding Algan pet!

Ugh! I know! Tell me about it. I think I killed that pet over a dozen times and I still can’t get it to drop. Still, as I noted above, I managed to get lucky and find other pets while trying to get this one.

It’s not quite like that.
I remember Loncis from several years back, he was building teams to face and level pets using the Draenor pet trainers at that time.
Him having rercently returned to the game, I tried to do him a kindness, a pet freely offered, with no debt between us.
You, who I remember from a week ago, would be forever in my debt, should I surrender you this pet. Hmm… it would be kinda like owning your soul… too wicked for me.
Instead, why don’t we work a trade? Any pet I don’t have is acceptable to me to take in trade for the snail.
