Is there evil in Warcraft?

Was talking and thinking about this last night after seeing the latest round of changes.

I don’t think this is exactly a new development, but it did put it on my mind. I’m struggling to think of any characters that are just bad people without having been either corrupted or driven insane. I know Blizzard is all about that gray morality, but any bad action is just wiped out because nobody ever does anything wrong except because they’re corrupted or insane. Even Sylvanas didn’t really commit genocide, she was controlled by the Jailer, who in turn was probably corrupted by some outside force.

You can’t really hold the old gods responsible, they’re practically animals-- they’re more like sentient cancer than anything you can apply morality to.

Maybe Garrosh? At least until we retroactively find out what corrupting influence made him such a jerk.

Are there any characters still in the warcraft universe that are just… Bad?

I don’t really want to count Garithos because he was WC3 before the universe turned into everyone being a bastion of purity.

I think that the jailer is a baddie. They should put a gnome in his chest hole to act as his heart!

I would say GD is the ultimate evil

But on the flip side he was doing his best to try to hold the remaining Alliance together against the overwhelming tide of Scourge. He was trying to fight and survive.

His elf dislike was a major personality flaw, but I wouldn’t say he’s evil at all. He’s just a dude.

I actually think we’re going to find out what corrupted Zovaal by the end of the xpac. I mean, by all accounts he was totally fine with just doing his job and then randomly snapped. Sounds like corruption or madness to me.

This current Blizzard would destroy his character. He would either be comically villain or entirely reformed.

Imagine the last expansion is just a huge troll by the devs, and we end up fighting leading trolls from GD. I would 100% roll that entire expansion from beginning to end

I actually am sadden to agree with this garithos core character was a racist but steve dansuer in his idociy says racism never existed in azeroth

Morally grey makes for better writing.

But . . . it also requires that the writer knows what the hell they’re doing so . . . :man_shrugging:

I mean, even anything like this. Garithos was a racist jerk, but we don’t even really have jerks anymore. He wasn’t evil, but he was kind of a bad guy.

Well, I’m sure he meant among humans.

But for all their talk and hyping up of morally grey prior to this expansion they absolutely could not do it today along those lines for fear of “journalism” pushback.
