No they won’t. Every Rank is a whopping 2 item level difference. It will not in any way determine your success or failure for the next couple of weeks. AT ALL. The sky is not falling.

The final 2 bosses require the sanity resist on the cloak.
…and corruption resistance. It’s the main source of it for now.
Wrathion provides you with the buff (edit: to not be attacked by semantics wrathion allows to use the on-use ability) in Normal/Heroic. So you really don’t even need the ability unlocked upgraded on your own cloak until the 28th when Mythic opens (just for corruption resistance since the on-use I believe is no longer available in this mode) and that is IF you can even clear up to the last 2 bosses on the first week.
Again, the sky is NOT falling.
Death in real life is more punishing but in game, um, I don’t think so. They should’ve made it have an ilvl requirement possibly even though I don’t like that sort of locking especially on new content but I’ve seen quite a few players not prepared for the difficulty.
This avatar I am posting on barely, and I mean barely as in like 1% before full sanity lose, beat Thrall the first time and I had 415 ilvl I believe or less at the time. Now that I unlocked the sanity replenish skill I won’t have as hard a time but first time runs without replenishment are going to hurt some players/classes.
Some classes don’t have as hard a time because their pets can take the damage and prevent sanity loss while other, squishy classes are going to have a harder time especially at lower ilvl. I would suggest a higher ilvl for those having a hard time. Not sure what would be a good starting point ilvl wise though.
Even so, the mechanic as currently designed does not value players time and efforts when things happen beyond our control that cause a failure case.
THAT I agree with.
Interesting conundrum of this game is the choice between:
1> jumping in right at the start of any new content, getting all the benefits of knowledge and seeing how everything was at the start or…
2> jumping in after the timegates are cleared, one layer of stuff to grind is removed, bugs and painpoints are fixed, catchup mechanisms all in play, running all the content at your pace without timegates etc. And basically spending a fraction of the RL times doing all the things people in group 1> just did.
(This is me levelling toons on rested bonus playing classic content I never saw before because I only arrived in 2015. Still not sure I want to return to BFA mission tables and multiple layers of endless equipment powerup grinds on redundant content… but this thread makes me think I’m okay holding off a couple more months.)
If the cloak isn’t required for the Sanity mechanic in normal/heroic my bad on the miss-information. You would think it would be for all the information provided and it being the main driving force for this entire patch.
I fixed what I wrote. You do need the on-use. Just not the high levels of corruption resistance. So I apologize for that part. Still, you only need reach rank 6 to unlock the on-use. Failing up to 3 times, you can still get it for next week Normal/Heroic clear.
So it seems so far. There are 2 ways it is punishing from reading everyone’s thoughts.
1.Being behind. According to everyone you won’t be that far behind as long as you casually do the content though starting late might be a bit more frustrating. But overall it seems not too bad.
2. Time and effort investment. Pretty annoying and punishing in this regard. Not fun to have to make up for a dc, experimenting with new content, or trying to try it out with a friend to have you both clobbered in an instant just to have you wait another week to do it.
I just wish I could have fun with the new content with my friend who is undergeared without being depressed when we get beat up by Thrall and friends and have our lunch money for the week extracted.
Lets see…
1k from caches
2800 from dailies
11000 from minor
10000 from major
7k from lesser vision
So we get 30700
So you get 3 vessels per week I think.
Thi doesn’t count the essences you get from the lesser vision of nzoth.
So enough that you should have enough to get to rank 15 since rank 13 and 14 need I think, two runs each?
Over a million from minor seems a little much. lol
Typoes man dont hurt me.
So lets see
Not counting this week.
For the next 9 weeks you can get a total of 27 vessels.
It takes 1 run per rank of cloak until rank 11 (?).
So you should have more than enough
Yeah, normally you want to keep throwing yourself at something challenging until you get it. But you can’t here.
I went into one of the bonus areas to try and upgrade my cloak to rank 6, did something reckless and silly, got stuck in combat, and couldn’t use an orb. So, I failed. Now I can try again…on Tuesday, I suppose. It just kind of feels bad. The daily content isn’t difficult or super time consuming, but it’s not especially fun either - basically chores that you’re trying to knock out (typical and somewhat expected at this point). However, I’d like to jump back into the more fun, challenging content for another attempt, but I won’t get the currency I need from the chores until next week.
Like you said, there’s really no fail and try again until you get it. It just seems like an atypical feature and less than ideal. Maybe it’s necessary for the big picture - I don’t know. I just think it feels bad, and I’m not looking forward to the next few days of vapid dailies.
I know just joking about the typo. Thought it was funny. My main concern is less so catching up and more so trying to have fun with it and not being able to play with it. Chores to do fun stuff and failing makes you do more chores next week is my problem.
They really should have capped the amount of upgrades you can get in a week, but have a reasonable way to farm up extra attempts for the week. Kind of like mage tower.
Gates can be okay when done properly.
Blizzard does not do them properly right now.
8.3 is basically Diablo 3 with Greater Rifts. Although in Diablo 3, you are not losing out on a key or “upgrades” if you don’t finish on time (sanity for WoW). Rather you get to go on and kill the Rift boss and still have a decent chance at getting Legendary even Primal gear. And yes, im aware D3 and WoW are totally separate game and yes, I play D3 also. The visions DO feel like a greater rift. Change my mind.
I 100% understand that Horiffic Visions are a “enter at your own risk” per say type of instance. And if you fail, well, you lose a vessel and a chance at upgrading your cloak. Now, I recommend getting to Thrall from Rank 1-6. After Rank 6, you will need to venture out into the Vision and obtain 2 Legendary Pages and kill Thrall for the upgrade. I’d suggest doing this in a solid group. Now, this may favor those in a group and maybe solo but depends on how strategic you are in getting a +2 chest at Rank 6 cloak and ilvl 440-450’sih to comfortable secure a 2 chest. My UDK is spec’d for solo at ilvl 442 and Rank 5 cloak. I did +1 my last chest but “barely” made it by killing Thrall.
I’m sure when the majority of my guildies are Rank 5-6, we’ll be running the Visions as a grp.
Other than that, I can’t say much about how “bad” this patch is. I mean, do I feel it was rushed? Yes. Do I feel this was content to keep us occupied after the holiday stint? Yes. Does Ian feel pressured about sending 8.3 out live despite the bugs? Yes. Why? Shadowlands. A totally new game, new expansion will take almost 100% concentration to get the product out on time. Everyone has a deadline and Ian needs to make them. He’s got a boss too.
It’s only been 4 days since the release of 8.3. Everyone, who’s a Veteran at playing WoW, should be used to things like this. We get it, not all expansions or patches will come out flawlessly. At this point, ppl just need to take a chill pill and let Blizzard fix the game as much as they can for the next 8 months before Shadowlands, then there will be more bugs to fix when the game goes live after Alpha, Beta and PTR testing is complete.
Personally, it’s a “ok” patch but not as “exciting” as it was hyped up to be. Players want to be “excited” about playing WoW, not, a bore chore type of experience. I dunno, either you love it or hate it I guess. I’m just tolerating it at this point. More excited about Shadowlands just as much as I was for WoTLK.
At this point, ppl just need to take a chill pill and let Blizzard fix the game as much as they can
And if we don’t speak up about the problems, they can’t fix it. That’s my point of this thread.
We’re all hyped for Shadowlands (most people). I hope Torghast turns out differently compared to Horrific Visions. Right now Horrific Visions feels more like the throne of thunder timed chest runs that you spend a token to enter compared to the deaths of chromie’s enter as many times as you want style.
