Is there anything as punishing as losing a Vessel?

I’ve been playing on and off for 15 years and I cannot remember anything as punishing as this Vessel loss system. (Mage Tower? I didn’t play Legion)

There was nothing in 8.2.5 that locked you out for a week without beating a boss. Fail a M+? Try again. Wipe on a boss? Try again. Lose a PVP match? Try again. PUG group sucks? Find another. Fail a warfront? Queue again. Lose an Island? Queue again.

Visions aren’t that special, or frankly exciting enough to warrant this level of punishment, especially since it’s going to be a core part of our progression.

I have very limited time to play during the week, and what little time I do have, I’ve spent doing the assaults, and dailys, to buy enough CV’s to get vessels.

I think, for all of the possible ways one can fail a vision (inexperience, lag, ISP issues, PC issues, server issues), that its really bad form of Blizzard to undermine people’s time like that.

Yes, “there’s a catch up”, but that still doesn’t change the fact that due to possibly issues beyond our control, a lot of our time is wasted.

We wouldn’t need a catch up mechanism if we weren’t charged our Vessel before Thrall is killed. Fail a vision? Try again. (like everything else in the game)

I can’t recall a single thing so directly punishing, no.

As far as player progression goes. Prob not. With mage tower it was all cosmetic so it was purely optional. However this is not, it has a direct effect on the final 2 bosses in Ny’alotha. Regarding difficulty of this, its not hard, but disconnects and lag is a good way to put you behind if you are subject to it.

That affects our progression, I don’t think so. Especially with it affecting how the last two bosses of Ny’alotha go (as above stated)… Failed visions should be able to be redone. (If the main objective for an upgrade isn’t finished) This is far too punishing, I do understand there are catch-ups, but, it is definitely too punishing

It’s the most brutally punishing thing I’ve ever heard of in a game. Especially something that will affect your performance for raiding. I haven’t lost any yet, and if I did I’m not sure I would have the will to try and earn another vessel.

OP, I agree with you I tried to go a little deeper into the vision because the cost of research upgrades are so high. That did not end well because I had to deal with 4 mobs surrounding some worm thing that kept me stunned. I’m not a fan of these visions.

I lost one due to… Well, a single missed mob that decided to pull the entire starting area to me, stun me, and kill me instantly.

This was my inexperience, and/or bad luck, but I seriously don’t look forward to this. The hype was real.

8.3 is the punishment patch. Fail a vision, get punished. Get a upgrade, get punished. Put on a upgrade, get punished. Cleanse a upgrade to make it wearable, get punished. Fly to high in zones we already paid for flying in, get punished.

I wish you could explore the horrific visions, have fun with them, or experiment. Gear is capped for visions and cloak rank is capped as well. Not much of a reason to even stop players from doing it continuously. Though I’m with you on it not consuming a vessel until you’ve done a objective. I tried to help my friend with low gear score do it and it was unexpectedly hard. He and I lost our vessels. He himself hadn’t even been able to complete one vision and he lost 3 consumables. He didn’t want to play much after that. (Sorry for the large paragraph.)

I don’t dislike the visions, they are the best thing in this patch for sure besides raiding they seem to get right every time. But limiting to like 3-4 runs a week seems a little rough. For the main attraction of the patch that is my biggest issue. Tired of all this timegating.

I’m cool with the timegating right now, as otherwise, many of us would be behind our guild/raid team. I just wish a fail wasn’t considered a waste of our time and efforts thereby blocking us from a redo on any given week.

A couple of hours or so of assaults and dailies a week for a total of 45 minutes (maybe) of fun and new game play.

You’ll explore more as time goes on as you get more powerful.

It’s the same design as Withered Training. By the end we were all doing full clears of that with ease which wasn’t the case week 1.

I know it just feels rough to get into. I remember the first time they tested an idea like this. Chromie’s Death? or something along those lines. You could go in non stop and mess around in it. Also I’d like to say I love solo content like this. Wish I could do it more often.

Corrupted mementos are the reason.

Maybe they could do something like they did with Chromie’s Death and gate the upgrades rather than the activity itself?

Allow a practice mode. lets you " explore " without a reward. Something of that sort. Can let you learn better routes i guess when you put the timer on.

Lots of people have been asking for harder content, especially solo content.
If it had no consequence for failing, could it really be considered a challenge though?

Kind of a tough thing to deliver in a game with so much focus on end game activities and people competing with or against each other.

nope i just lost my rank 6 cuz i pulled a few more mobs i couldnt see … so im behind a week lol

i like them its just a bit frustrating getting stuck in combat and being unable to use your orb to restore your sanity and failing the vision because of it
