Is there any reason the button to switch from Skyriding to normal flight is 5 seconds?

It use to be 0 seconds when you would just hit a button for a normal mount vs hitting a button for your dragon mount.

There is no reason that it should take 5 seconds to switch flight styles.

Are people really this upset over this? Just use the better mount style all the time (Skyriding)

Um, these are wow players. Everyone could get free epics and gold would rain from the skies, and they still whine and complain.

People are upset over the log in screen, the screen that you blink and miss as you’re logging in. Of course they’re upset over 5 seconds to swap mounts.

The cast time is a princely five seconds because the idea is that you pick whichever style of flying you prefer and stay with it, not swap back and forth constantly because you can’t stand that static flying doesn’t go at 800% speed.

I’m sure in time, the forum complaints will reduce that time to nothing because the WoW forums don’t understand the concept of not having everything all the time (see also: covenants, talents, different classes bringing different utilities), but it’s interesting to see just how intolerant the forums are of this basic RPG idea.

There is no reason. If there was a reason, Blizzard could login to the forums and explain it to us.

They could…

I have been playing this game for a LONG time, and the last time a dev showed up on these forums, it wasn’t pretty, and that dev is no longer with Blizzard.

In dragonflight we had access to both styles at once.
I would use dragonriding for long distances and regular flight for short distances and precision.
I used both styles of flight frequently. Now its unnecessarily inconvenient to do so.

They just downgraded flying.

There was never a “spec change” button to change over your entire mount journal before.

I wish we could choose which were which, though.

Yeah, the simple and real factual reason is… To annoy Players, just because! :smiling_imp:

I haven’t seen any reasonable explanation for it. It doesn’t seem necessary or helpful in anyway.
Requesting Blizz stop making normal flight difficult. I still love the idea of dedicated mounts for each flight, all I had to do was switch mounts and it worked perfectly.
In the new exp we need to level up before we can even use it. I’m not one to assume motive on the devs part, yet… :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

It is designed to take away choices from people that want to use both.

Yes.

Translation: “It’s fine for me so I don’t don’t understand why anyone else has a problem with it”. Great, thanks for your contribution. Here are some reasons:

  1. Hovering
  2. You’re out of vigor
  3. Tree branches. Hit them and you lose all momentum. This is both annoying and causes you to run out of vigor. They aren’t always visible either. Is this just a leaf canopy you can go through? Or is there a branch in there that’ll stop you dead in your tracks?
  4. Any terrain when you’re stopping to collect or harvest something or pick up or hand in a quest. Val’Sharah springs to mind.
  5. AFK flying. You can point in a direction and go get a drink or whatever.

A 5 second cast time is basically punishing you for not using Skyriding. Why? Why does Blizzard care? It’s basically “you’re playing the game wrong”.

I get why people are upset about this. It doesnt bother me to much but it should be in the game. It should be insta theres no reason for it not to be and I think thats what a lot of folks have issue with. I just didnt realize how many folks this errked.

I swapped mounts during questing but its really not a big deal… its 5s not 5mins

I use steady flight all the time I am doing Superbloom, mining, herbing and other cases of precision/helicopter flight is needed.

Skyriding is great for distance travel.

Both have value and it is great to have both in the game.

I’m a little irked. I don’t want my flying carpets and discs to have dragon flight. It’s immersion breaking. Discs should levitate. Only things * with wings * should have dragonflight.

Same with airplanes and choppers. They’re mechanical they shouldn’t have “vigor” and “backflap”

Expect it’s not always the “better” option, if you need to travel across the zone or over several zone that Dragon Riding is vastly superior due being faster.

The cast time is arbitrary. I believe it was 10 seconds in the original Beta build but then was reduced to 5 seconds after complaints. Either people just accepted that or their continued complaints went on deaf ears at Blizzard.

There’s no actual reason for it to be 5 seconds. It’s a punishment we don’t deserve. And a consequence of making all mounts skyride, which also we didn’t ask for in the first place. Just a bad decision overall.

Yeah OK or maybe it’s just that most forum-goers recognize there was nothing wrong with the “choose the mount you want” approach offered during Dragonflight, and are rightly disappointed by the game going backwards on this small QoL feature.

No one expects to have to choose among cars that are good for town only, or highway only; or to choose among restaurants that serve appetizers only or main courses only. There’s no reason to make players “choose” only one of two flying mechanisms which clearly serve different purposes.
