Is there any real argument for not opening up race / class combos?

Lore? That was thrown out the window a long time ago. We have literal impossibilities with lightforged warlocks and void elves touching light at all.

Dev cost? The only class that would have a cost is druid, and you could just use the already existing forms as placeholders anyway. I really don’t think people would care.

I’d just like an actual reason. Like every race has holy priest and uses the light, becomes an angel and all that, but paladin is the most race restrictive non-hero class for no reason.

Spoken like someone who never actually cared about the lore at all in the first place. But yes, the reason is lore. Well, for some. Others it is seemingly just the effort.

They try to add quests, like the recent Void Elves and Demon Hunter quests on K’aresh, to explain these changes from a narrative perspective. They also keep saying asset creation is another reason they don’t/won’t add more. This isn’t my opinion, just what was said as recently as the end of DF in interviews.

Here you go:

Yeah, I hear you. I think a Vulpera Paladin would be really cool. You say race restrictions, we say a bunch of extra animation and artwork that we have to do to make that work for a Vulpera Paladin. Unfortunately, especially Paladins and classes that have a lot of extra abilities, it does require work from the team to be able to make that work. Every time we talk about it we feel super passionately about making that. But at this time, we are actually not ready to announce any additional Paladins or other class extensions beyond what you’ve currently seen.

The last few classes we haven’t really gone broad with, there are some thematic and narrative challenges with. There are some races, for example, it’s very hard to imagine being druids. I don’t know what a goblin druid or mechagnome druid would look like in Azeroth culturally, in terms of their traditional background and what the Druids of the Grove and Cenarion circle typically value and welcome in. I would never say never, but I don’t think we have any immediate plans for further expansion.

So we don’t have a reason

Okay, tell me what lore reason prevents a gnome from becoming a paladin?

And what prevents a human from becoming a druid, according to lore?

Every race has all paladin animations, so that’s a bold faced lie. You can use the recalibrator or the masks and see for yourself.

I have suggested it would cool to make new druid, paladin, or shaman models for bosses and enemies to save on budget. :robot::thought_balloon:

They kinda did that in DF.

You asked a question, and I gave you the interview with the reasons you asked about. I literally kept my opinion and feelings on it out of the reply. Don’t use me as a proxy for your frustration with Blizzard please.

Would a mechagnome druid just hop into a robotic cat or drive a moonkin like a battle mech?

Paladin is not a calling typically pursued by gnomes.

Druidism is not a calling typically pursued by (Stormwind) humans.

Art asset creation for the remaining main ones and id imagine they’re saving it for if something bombs as an incase of emergency fix.

Evoker are new enough and all tied up in dracthyr so theyre off the table for a bit.

Dh does have custom assets with the horns, skin scales and tatoos.
Void elves can straight rip off the belf ones and then adding 1 new void themed tatoo set would double for the race and new spec. Probably why nightborne arent getting the class yet, they need different assets since they cant straight rip the nightelf ones even if based off their rig.

Druids need racial forms, the new harronir ones show blizz isnt ready for just generic barber shop ones to output in mass.

Pallies need mounts, shamans need totems, theyd be the easiest and probably next if we did get them. Lore wise probably pallys next as we’re fighting a whole bunch of void monsters.

Gnomes? Too short to reach the light
For real though, they go under the too much effort list.

They don’t know how.

All I said was that it’s a lie?

Just unfold like a Transformer.

Okay, but a paladin is, by lore, just a knight who was trained to use light, or a priest who picked up a sword and armor.

Gnomes use the light canonically, they just don’t worship it. Priests are called medics in gnome culture.

Is it such a stretch for a medic to put on armor and call themself a combat medic?

And surely gnomes could see how effective paladins are for humans, who they’ve been strong allies with for how many decades now?

But it is a thing used by Kul’tirans, some of whom are living with the Stormwind humans, and we humans have very strong ties with NE. Not that big a stretch for some humans to try out druidism I’d think.

The charger is the already existing racial mount with a slight mesh edit. An intern could do each one in a day or two.

Totems are static objects with minimal animations. Also would take an intern a day or two per race.

I’m sure they could walk up to a night elf and be like, “Yo teach me druid”

Wow.

I’m all for Druids, Shamans, Paladins and Demon Hunters for all but some of them still wouldn’t make sense and would be dumb or would look dumb and that’s the reality, plus it falls to Blizzard to make the forms, totems, racial mounts and animations which since we are talking Blizzard probably isn’t a top priority.

Ah, my bad, I thought you were saying I was lying, lol. Yeah, I mean, I’m right there with you. I’ve wanted Night Elf Paladins ever since Delas Moonfang became one during the Priest and Paladin Order Hall campaigns in Legion. Lately, I’ve also been hoping for a Night Elf Shaman, like the Primalist ones shown in Dragonflight while questing. Blizzard is just extremely slow at adding things. They tease stuff, and it could be months, years – even a literal decade – before they actually follow through.

I look at it from a common sense perspective. I would imagine making the gear, animations, spell effects, etc. unique and pertinent to each individual race for very specific classes probably takes a very long time. The same way housing was in abandoned 20 year-old project that they have been working on since BFA.

They have probably also been working on all of the race class combos along the way and it’s my hope that by 14.0 We are going to see not only changes to the face of Azeroth, but they will have had enough time to work on the race class combinations to unlock everything. A New World and a new way to experience it. At least that’s my hope.

I vaguely recall Ion saying all races/all classes was coming.

am I crazy?

These are already done. You can use the atomic recalibrator. Every race has every animation, and spell effects work properly for them.

They use a system for gear that does it automatically. Requires basically no input.

Ion promised it’s not happening.

The toy has a limited effect and it’s not truly your character. It’s an overlay on top of your character. You seem to be confusing the two. In order to make it officially your character. It needs to be part of that skeleton and not just an overlay. People who use these things as examples absolutely expose themselves for not understanding how coding game design work.
