The patch notes says that “many” flying mounts are cappable of skyriding but I’ve yet to find one that is not.
Otterwordly Ottuk can’t. I haven’t tested out many others.
If there are some it is probably due to still needing some work or because it would make no sense. I do not know if there is a balloon based flying mount out there, but it would be silly to accelerate such a mount to ludicrous speed.
There is.
And it is silly.

There are some, but they behave like ground mounts while you have skyriding active. You can’t just put them on your bars to avoid the cast time of the swap.
I’v come across at least 2 bugged mounce since the latest patch. The latest RAF mount has skyriding ability but it doesn’t work properly. Literally can’t launch off the ground without manual activation.
Can’t wait to hop on my Goblin and take a spin on my seagull in skyride mode.
Filthlin Filth the Fifth.
As far as I can see the Otterworly Ottuk Carrier is the only steady flight only mount. If you wanted one to try to get around that stupid mode switch cast time don’t bother. It’s grounded when skyriding mode is active so you can’t get around it.
If it doesn’t have wings, then skyflapping doesn’t make much sense. e.g. Headless Horseman’s Mount, Red Flying Cloud, Flying Carpets, etc.
but what of the unbelievable sights? The indescribable feelings? Soaring, tumbling, freewheeling through an endless diamond sky?
No thanks. Will play another game that doesn’t require any of that. 20 years I have played retail. That is over and by Blizzard’s choice.
Otterworldly Ottuk. There were more but Blizzard added them over the beta and PTR cycles before the patch’s release.
Imagine being so fragile that you’re decision to play a game is based on a flying carpet… Good riddance.
The Nightmare Moose from the Emerald Nightmare/Nighthold glory meta can’t sky ride, but the Grove Warden (AoTC mount from Archimonde in WoD) can. I’m assuming it’s an oversight.
You’re missing out on a whole new world. A new, fantastic point of view. No one to tell you no or where to go or say that you’re only dreaming.
Noooooo, they did not have the balloon do a barrel roll X’D
So, my question is: Why does there have to be a cast time to swap flying type? Makes no sense to me, at all. What the SHOULD have done is have one or more flying mounts that are designated as “no skyriding” mounts, which you could put on your bar and use to fly the “old” way, without having to do the flying type swap. They could even let us choose to designate our own non-skyriding mounts, for that matter.
A whole new world!
Thanks. Saved me some time looking through my very long list. I gotta say, the cast time for switching mode is really STUPID, though. It’s not even a “it would imbalance PVP” thing, either, as far as I can tell. All they need to do is just not ground steady-flight-only mounts, and be done.
Otterworldly Ottuk from the 500 mount achievement cannot dragonride or whatever call it now.
Functionally, the mounts probably have different IDs for their dynamic flight, and static flight styles. The cast time is unfortunately necessary to swap, similar to talents.
I would agree that this is probably the best solution that fits within the limitations I imagine they’re running into. A toggle on every mount (where applicable), and the cast time to lock in your choices, or any changes. That would establish the relevant IDs, but at our discretion.
