I guess I was a prepper of the era, I didn’t care for the community when it existed so I didn’t miss it once it was gone. I’ve tried joining guilds and being social, it leads to the dark side and I end up pulling and renaming characters, transferring, starting over, making guilds for just my own characters, really anything I can do to stay away from it.
Should the time come I ever have RL people to play with (ie more than one for a few hours a week like I have now) I will gladly play with others again. Because if I can’t picture the person behind the computer, they don’t make sense to me as people. I don’t mind queuing for the most part it’s anonymous. I just play the game to relax and that means not needing any social front. I’m not a jerk but it’s too much work to try to worry about what my guild thinks when I just want to level solo or whatever. If you help me then I’ll just stress about reciprocating or feeling like a jerk, yeah in some ways I’m pretty much a mess.
Discord is text chat as well, I never talk in voice personally

well imma be real with you. community sucks. most “big guilds” are just spam invite guilds where no one talks with 400 members online like ruin gaming or something of the ilk and the ones that do talk usually do it in discord but tend to be very clique-y, meaning they won’t just chat with “new guildies” because those guilds also tend to be spam invite guilds.
community is largely gone, nothing like Vanilla or BC where people would just talk about interesting stuff, instead of today where tradechat is dominated by Trumps schutzstaffel and various anti-trump people. Gchat is even worse. I’ve been in so many guilds where 100 people online, I can say something… and come back 4 days later and check the guild log and the last thing said in guild… was what I said.
So yeah… nowadays its just the scurrying about of wow junkies trying to get a hit of that DPS/HPS/Tanking increase, or trolls.

Honestly no, If you’re wanting an ingame community just go with the RP realms since you’ll always see the same people there vs other realms where 90% of the people I see aren’t from my realm at all. You could also find some nice people from the RP realms doing community stuff on twitter or something.
We all hate each other now.
It’s kind of nice. I thrive in this sort of environment.

We have a great forum community, you may not think it but there are some really awesome people here, knowledgeable, kind and very funny folks hang out here.
Guess you have to spend some time here to see it but the community is here for sure.

So best to dive into a guild and make your home there, or search the many actual in game communities, they are also a cool source of player community.

social guilds took a big hit when we lost guild perks
then they all but died when LFG/cross realm zoning came out
