i use a flip phone. it cant run apps. it makes phone calls. it texts too, i suppose, but as strange as this might seem… i have a phone to make phone calls. and that’s it.
but every single time i open my bags i am confronted with an ugly reminder that i am missing slots (which i could deal with) if they werent always there. frankly i’d be just as happy with an option to disable this ‘reminder’ in my ui. i downloaded an addon to hide it, and it works as long as i am not in combat.
any workaround for this eyesore besides the usually working add on?
`If you don’t have a smartphone, you can still use a Blizzard Authenticator to secure your World of Warcraft account. Blizzard offers several alternative methods to set up two-factor authentication:
Physical Blizzard Authenticator (Keychain Device)
Blizzard used to sell physical authenticators, which were small keychain devices that generated one-time codes. Unfortunately, they are no longer sold by Blizzard, but you might find one on third-party marketplaces. Be cautious when purchasing from unofficial sellers to ensure the device is unused and legitimate.
Email Authentication
Blizzard also offers email-based authentication. When you log in from a new device or location, Blizzard will send a security code to your registered email address. While less secure than an authenticator, it’s still a decent layer of protection.
Use a Computer-Based Emulator for Mobile Authenticator
You can emulate the mobile Blizzard Authenticator app on your computer using software like BlueStacks or NoxPlayer, which allow you to run Android apps on your PC. Here’s how to set it up:
Download and install an Android emulator like BlueStacks.
Search for the Blizzard Authenticator app in the Google Play Store within the emulator.
Install the app and set it up with your Blizzard account.
4. Support From Blizzard
If none of the above options work for you, you can contact Blizzard’s customer support for assistance. They may be able to suggest an alternative solution tailored to your situation.
If you need help setting up one of these options, let me know!`
ChatGPT is very incorrect so I am glad most people don’t use it.
Blizzard stopped selling the Physical Authenticators many many years ago. If you still have one it works, but only until the battery dies. Batteries on the DigipassGO Device are rated for 7 years. Mine is from 2010 and I still use it so I realize I am pushing my luck there.
Blizzard does NOT have email authentication. They do have a system that locks the account if it detects suspicious activity. You will get an email telling you to change your password from the new device. That is NOT the same as the Authenticator.
Blizzard has never supported emulation devices. Further, now that the Authenticator is part of the Battlenet App that does not work at all that I know of.
The only thing that will resolve the empty bag slot that the OP is worried about, is to have the Battlenet app authenticator active. That requires an app capable phone AND a valid telephone number with SMS text support. That phone number can only be used on one Battlenet account.
i opened a ticket because that seemed the one chatgpt suggestion that seemed reasonable. and i got a page long, needlessly wordy post suggesting i buy a physical authenticator (lemme just whip out my time machine here), and otherwise nope they cant do anything. on the bright side, this time when i asked support for help with something they didnt take a week to explain they are useless.
what exactly, is the difference between verifying someone’s phone via text or an app? does the app scrape personal data blizzard can sell to third parties? what is the benefit to THEM demanding people do this? because it sure as hell doesnt offer us mere customers any benefit.
You’d be surprised how world changing it is. GPS maps/directions, apps to help you in daily life(I use walmart app for shopping, saves a lot of time), youtube on demand, etc. And of course authenticator apps. You don’t need an iphone or S16 or w/e were on now for over $1000. A cheaper model around $200 is way better.
