Is there a weapon skill cap? 308?

Why every guide I check the recommendation is to use either Muggers Belt or Distracting Dagger? Why not both?

I read in some comment somewhere that that weapon skill capped at 308. Is that true?

caps actually higher than that but not much benefit past 308 and 305 is all you need for raiding really

308 is when the effects of weapon skill on raid-bosses dramatically fall off…after that, other stats become a lot more valuable. I am assuming combat-daggers, the 310 you get one of those items and the talent “Weapon Expertise” are enough.

yeah rogue can hit 310 easy without sacrificing much esp if you are human but you are a gnome so you would need it from somewhere else if you want it

305 is the biggest break point as most people know, because that’s when the formula changes and you effectively gain 3% hit (in addition to glancing blows going from 65% to 85% damage.) From 305-308 you gain .1% hit per point, but cumulatively you go from 85% to 95% on glancing blows (or about 3.33% per point.) After 308 you no longer gain any glancing blow increase and only .1% hit making weapon skill a pretty inefficient stat after 308

There’s a hard “if less than 3 level difference” for glancing blows making your glancing blows 40% weaker, so in turn if you have +5 weapon skill on a mob +3 levels above you(exactly 3 levels, a boss), it’s like gaining a 67% dps increase on glancing blows.

I think, I have no clue.

When attacking a level 63 mob (or bosses, which are actually level 63 if you ever had that Vanilla WoW disconnection glitch at SW Keep) at level 60 40% of your attacks will glance, no matter what. However, the damage penalty of those glancing blows is reduced by weapon skill, starting at 30% with no +weapon skill and capping at 308 (5% reduction). There isn’t a huge difference in glancing blow damage between 304 and 305 skill, you gain a lot of dps because you gain 3% hit chance if your weapon skill is 10 levels or less lower than the mob’s defense skill.

Until you have 308 of it, weapon skill is a big stat. Which is why edgies is an overpowered item - not only does it allow you to use every weapon type but you’ll be only 1 point removed from the cap.

35% technically.

Even from 300-304 its still one of the best ways to increase your damage point for point, it just doesn’t compare to the big boost you get going from 304-305 because of the hit bonus. (So a non-human with no weapon skill gets a larger immediate benefit from Maladeth than a human with their racial, though if/when they get edgies its largely wasted.)

30%. Glancing blows deal 0.7 times your regular hit damage at 300 skill against level 63 mobs, not 0.65 times. You increase that multiplier to 0.95, for a 5% penalty at 308 weapon skill.

I said “until you have 308 of it, weapon skill is a big stat”. So yeah. I was just correcting Combined because she thought there was a huge difference between glancing blow damage at 304 and glancing blow damage at 305.

giving a non human unless its a rogue or tank Maladeth would give me cancer so would giving a human rogue Maladeth

308 is what people want to get for raiding.

if you go above that, it would be good for pvp against tanks, to get past defense stat. more crits, less glancing blows, but thats all it would be really useful for.

Weapon skill has the greatest effect on your chance to hit a level 63 for the first 5 points, where at 305 skill you effectively have gained 3% hit. Under 305 skill a raid boss ignores the first hit% you have from gear/talents, and each point of weapon skill from 300 to 305 is worth .4 % hit each against a raid boss. Beyond that, each point of weapon skill is worth .1% hit against a raid boss.

For glancing blow damage reduction, that is 35% at 300 skill against a raid boss, and drops by 4% to a minimum of a 5% reduction at 308 skill. (Against a raid boss, a flat 40% of your autoattacks will glance. You can’t drop that chance, but weapon skill drops the penalty on those hits)

For dodge chance, weapon skill reduces the raid boss’s chance to dodge you by .1% per point from 6.5% at 300 skill to a (minimum?) Value of 5% at 315 weapon skill.

So… weapon skill is great for hit chance up to 305, continues to be great for glancing blow penalties until 308, and dodge chance until 315.

Most guides don’t suggest going past 308 however, as the value of the stat drops off harshly after that point. It doesn’t drop to nothing, but it might as well.

Marrowwar says 65. He could be wrong but… hes usually not.

Wait, you’re right about that. My mistake.

true warrior never said hes wrong put that long eared tree hugging freak in his place

I only moonlight as a tree-hugging freak. My day job is a warrior.

but bears are not warriors

Would a Night Elf warrior using Thunderfury and Maladath with Edgemasters give you cancer? Because not only have I seen it, but he actually plays in GRIZZLY. I don’t understand how that situation happened, I would imagine that guild would know better.

i mean you dont have much choice but to use maladath if you use thunderfury its what all the tanks are doing

I mean, if you’re strictly trying to min/max your tank… thats still probably BIS weapons for the rest of the game.
