I’m unfamiliar with layers in WoW but if you have questions about layers in Photoshop or Clip Studio I can help with that.

If you’re looking to join someone in their shard, have them invite you into a group.

Short answer: Yes!

Long answer: If you’re looking to join a specific layer, i.e. one with friends, have that friend(s) invite you to their group. You will then switch to their layer (assuming you were not on it to begin with).

Additionally, when you log out for an extended period, you may log back into a different layer than the one you were previously on due to the constantly shifting population ceiling.

Alternatively, if you’re looking to “layer-hop”, which I strongly recommend not doing, you will have to find a handful of people that happen to be on different layers and repeatedly join/leave their groups until you find the one you want.
