Is there a way to level a pet slowly?

I have an orange tabby cat that’s level 16. She’s my kitty Keepers Npc, lol.
Keepers went to the bridge a couple of weeks ago at the grand age of 19.5.
I would like to level the pet to hit 19 but not go over. I’ve noticed leveling can jump several levels, is there a way to level them at a steady pace that I can reach 19 without going over?
thanks

You group it with other pets at that level and you fight level appropriate pets. It should level at only one level at a time.

You might try Felwood.

If you have pet charms, you can buy a leveling stone or two at the pet shop in New Dalaran.

I was just writing a very wordy - and number-y - answer, but it boils down to this.

I would suggest starting with Blasted Lands to start rather than Felwood, because it has Level 16 pets rather than 15, but yes.

You can battle your Keepers with a couple of Level 25s for safety if you prefer.

Start with your Keepers and attack once. Then switch to a 25 and obliterate the oppoition. Keepers will probably get around 600 XP for that battle, which will be about half a level.

Keep doing that until you just cross 19.

You can battle against slightly lower level pets to earn a bit less XP each time.

CAREFUL with that!!

A Yellow Stone (Flawless Battle-Training Stone) no longer grants just one level. It always grants 2000 XP. At level 16, that’s about a level and a half, maybe two levels? depending on how much XP you already have into 16.

I think that you might be safe to use ONE Yellow Stone on a Level 16 pet, but I haven’t actually done the math yet (that’s what I had been looking up).

But safer to take it slowly with a few wild battles against other level 16s.

Thank you both so very much, I will head over there and do that now.
It really means the world to me.
Thank you.

Not trusting myself with the math I took the easy out, just experimented.

Leveled a rare Orange Tabby to 16. Caged and then added back to journal so I knew was starting fresh with no extra XP.

First yellow stone took it to 17 and a half. Second one 90% of way through 18. So third stone jumped it to 20.

Very good idea to take it slowly.

Pet stones used to confer one level at a time?

You mean, no matter what level you were at, a stone would bring you to the next level? Really??? But that’s stupid. A stone at level 24 will be much more valuable than the same stone at level one.

If you get the timing right, you can swap in a level one in a pet battle in the wild and get nine levels on a level one.
