How can I leave combat when I’m done with a dummy?
I try everything. Shadowmeld. Target something friendly. Sitting. nothing works.
If there is no way to do this…; how is it, in the year 2023, we still have a glitch that has been around since inception. How can an army of devs not figure this out
Making your character hearth works but it isn’t a very good solution…
Pressing escape until I’m no longer targeting it always works for me.
Alt + F4, then log back in.
This worked for me thank you. For anyone reading please try this first. And for a permenant solution so this does not happen again, visit account profile and unsub
sometimes I walk away and kill the nearest rat or insect.
I gotta leave the upgrade/PvP room in Val.

Yes why didn’t we all think of this sooner? Everyone should try this solution it really works. Unsub works better with a uninstall as well.

Just leaving combat usually works like stop attacking, untarget, and runway
Also light all your entire bank account on fire so you can’t fund Blizzard’s new Yacht. Not like Blizzard actually does anything constructive in the game with it anyway. /sarcasm.
That can also mess up your game files.
Wait until your DoTs are gone on the target dummy and walk away. That’s all I’ve ever had to do.
Doesn’t work all the time, There have been time at the training dummies when I don’t drop combat and I have run to the bank and AH and was still in combat after 15 minutes.
Quick UI reset fixes that.
Then I’d put in a bug report about it. I’ve never run into this, so something is definitely bugged that Blizz needs to look at.
The amount of people who rage when you tell them to do a full UI reset is astounding. Best not to mess up game files at all when there are other options, imo.
I have done that many times over the years, it’s not a new bug. A gm recommended me to try it if nothing else worked.
Usually if they rage at that, I’ll just shake my head and drop the conversation.
I think there should be an NPC next to combat dummies that resets all cooldowns and removes you from combat.
Well that sucks, I’m sorry. 
Probably one of those “we’ll get to it eventually years later if we’re lucky.” Bleh.
