This isn’t necessarily me looking for a guild specifically, I’m more curious about how people go about it.
I’ve been leveling a toon and I’ve never played classic before so I’d like to find a guild to join so i can learn, but it seems like the only guilds out there that i see from playing in the world are some cesspool guilds sister-guild with an invite AddOn.
Is there a discord server or is it the forums here? or something else? Trade chat doesn’t seem to have anyone talking about guilds, and the guilds i mentioned before with their auto-invite AddOns seem less than desirable(are they?).
A lot of it is understanding what you want out of a guild, and also experience to understand what guilds you are applying for are looking for.
Discord, trade chat yeah those are both good ways to find out about guilds looking for members.

I would always do leveling guilds until about 48 or so, then start my search for a good guild by pugging and friending good players. Once you’re in the high 50s really be on the lookout for decent players in your groups and if you like them ask about their guild if they have one. At 60 you could run with guild hosted pug raids, and actually feel out how they run their raids.
I actually run a Pug on Fridays specifically for the purpose of advertising our guild and showing how we run our raids. We get a lot of people that way

The vast majority of guilds is only interested in recruiting higher level characters. There are mass-invite guilds which may or may not be useful during leveling. Finally, there are dedicated leveling guilds which exist primarily to help find groups for questing and dungeons. These are somewhat rare but can be quite helpful to a new player.
Your best bet is to join a leveling guild temporarily, and join a raiding guild when you are level 55+ or so. To join a leveling guild, post “LF leveling guild” in /trade and /LookingForGroup, or whisper people who mention “leveling guild” in their posts.
Good luck leveling!
definitely check out your server discords, but the trick to finding a good guild is trial and error, and it comes down to what you’re specifically looking for.
High end speed clearing?
Casual raiding?
Leveling and some light organized play
PVP?
RP?

Depends on what you’re looking for in a guild. If you just want a leveling guild then the random invites ones will probably work. If you want one that focuses on raiding/pvp I’d say hit up your realm forums and its discord server. My server, Earthfury, has a Discord with both factions and two separate ones for Alliance and Horde. In the Alliance one there’s a channel dedicated to recruitment.
Hope that idea helps.
look at the logs for the best guilds on your server.
ask if you can join up for alt runs.
crush those alt runs and collect gear.
talk to your class leader and express interest in joining the main raid team if a spot opens up.
thats the best way to get into a top guild imo.

Levelling guilds and raiding guilds are different things sometimes. I think you’ll find that if you’re not in a guild and you PuG many dungeons with people, you’ll get invited to guilds often (assuming you’re not an insufferable jerk).
As to finding the right guild, my advice would be to just notice the guilds people are in when you group or chat with them, and over time you might notice that you’ve grouped with other players from that guild before. You may notice over time that you fit more with players from some guilds than others, due to playstyle, humor, priorities, seriousness, skill-level, or other reasons.
Most levelling guilds are always looking for new members, so if you play with some people in a guild and hit it off, they’ll probably be more than happy to get you an invitation.
Although I might look to join one for raiding at some point, I usually prefer not to be in a guild while levelling, so I typically have a fake vanity guild tag just so that I don’t get spammed with invitations or people asking me why I’m not in a guild.
Look at your servers faction logs to see who clears in the speed you want, make sure they raid your days.
Play the game as unguilded. Don’t be a dick when going through dungeons or doing group content. Get invite to guild by people who think you’re a decent guy.

I would go off warcraftlogs website. Go down the list until one of the guilds is recruiting for your class.
GDKP and dkp guilds are safe bet. Unless… you’re buddy buddy with a few officers in a loot council guild. Just make sure you understand the loot rules before you join. it’s not fun to make friends only to leave due to loot problems.
Your realm probably has a discord. That discord probably has a “looking for guild” channel. Try that.
Also, your realm probably has a reddit. You could post there.
Also, there is an official Classic guild recruitment forum. You could post there.
The more places you cast your line the more bites you’ll get.
