Question is in the title. I’m pushing on my ele sham and I want to improve my game knowledge on what I should be trying to dispell. I go for BOP a lot, and i know alter for mages. What I’m wondering is if someone has ever compiled a list of the spells worth purging/dispelling in pvp?
Sorry I’m not sure how this got missed but I will always try to purge if I see:
- BoP
- Freedom
- Alter Time
- Ice Form (replaces icy veins and not used much anymore)
Honestly aside from those I can’t think of anything major but I am sure I’m not thinking of some stuff.

power infusion
divine favor
raid buffs like stam/int/motw
disc/mage shields
earth shield
nature’s swiftness
fel dom
nether ward

Yeah some of those are just rotational abilities so you throw purge out on cd kinda nad maybe get them. Stuff like PI and Nether are big to get off though.
Yeah, that’s good advice for people who aren’t remembering to press purge. Better to do that than to not press at all.
I’m trying to do it a bit more consciously, though, because sometimes I press it to fill in a global and then don’t have it for something important like BOP. Such is the nature of arena chaos xD
Was typing out a reply but it looks like you’ve mentioned a lot of the others I was going to add.
I think more importantly, just purge as much as you can and generally try to keep the target(s) clean. Not to say there aren’t some things that may be totally worthless to purge, but most offer some value that you’d be better off if they didn’t have. Not only that, but often when someone does use something that you want to purge it is going to be covered with something else you might get instead. For example, going for a BoP on a target with Fortitude/Int buff and you still haven’t gotten BoP off by your 3rd dispel. At that point it’s already been effective enough to disrupt your flow.
Oh also, you can purge off the Mind Control buff on your partner, so if a priest ever MCs someone on your team, purge it off and save your kick.

Yep exactly, that’s why it’s important to know the important spells, their cd, when they were used ,etc. So you know if you need to save it or can press and maybe get something useful off before you need it.
