I noticed that toons I were working on in Classic are gone. I don’t play frequently, but I’m wondering if there’s a realm I can make a character on and level to 60 over 2 years. And then not have it deleted ever.

You are in the same boat as me. I had characters that were moved to WoTLK when i had no intentions to leave Vanilla Classic. There is a small movement by players to try to get blizzard to reopen the cloning service to return our characters to Vanilla Classic. Although there are classic era severs, my trust is already broken with them moving my character from classic era to WoTLK so who’s to say the ones on these classic era servers will remain there too?

What happened was Blizzard goofed and canceled the CHOICE you formerly had to make between playing era or going to Progression.
Never mind the loss of the clones, the real tragedy is the loss of the choice to move to progression.
Im not crying over clones being lost, but the choice elimination sucks!

How is Whitemane for Horde and Alliance pop?
Whitemane is poppin! Last night at 2am there were 65 people online in my guild and Org was packed. You can generally find groups for just about any dungeon 24/7, granted you may have to wait a bit as DPS. Last night for example I got into 4 different SM groups from 12-2am, and saw plenty of people leveling in STV.
Era hasn’t felt this alive since 2019.

Era started in 2021 so it wasn’t alive in 2019. A common mistake people make, especially those who want cloning back.

Dude the exact same thing happened to me. I had a 40’s druid and I left for a while and admittedly missed or spaced out while reading anything related to my toon being moved and just the other day I found out, was pretty bummed…luckily I enjoy leveling up more than end game having never actually gotten there lmao. ultimately, losing your character is a good thing
its not a good thing, if you feel that way delete yours if you copied it over. otherwise you are just being a hypocrite. Blizzard please return our characters to where they belong.

Unless Blizz retires Classic, overall.
It’s why you should still research in what Blizz is doing. You never know when they’re gonna dip!

I never thought they would automatically transfer my character to the expansions. I thought that was the whole point of WoW Classic when I started playing it. As I wasn’t playing the game I wasn’t following Blizzard news, and therefore I didn’t know there was a need to clone my characters. I had no idea there was a choice to make, so I never made a choice.
Or, I could frame it: I made my choice when I was not paying and playing for TBC and WotLK expansions. My “choice” should have been implicit if I never played those expansions, never went beyond 60, etc.
Saying we “made a choice” when we did not know the choice was there is an unfair framing of the situation.
Don’t get me wrong, it is just a game and I’m not that upset personally, I don’t feel entitled to my view or my way, but it is something I would greatly appreciate from Blizzard if they reopened cloning.
