Is there a consensus on the best warrior leveling spec for 1.12?

I’ve been looking through guides on warrior leveling and what I’ve seen repeated often is that fury is the best spec to level until 40, then respec to arms for MS. However I’ve noticed that this build is recommended on the assumption that /sit crit will proc blood craze and enrage.

From my understanding, this is incorrect data used on other servers and is not representative of the mechanics of retail 1.12. In that case, is arms a better leveling spec? From what I can see, the main appeal of fury in this instance is 5% critical strike from cruelty, and aoe slow from piercing howl. Unless the 5% crit is a huge deal, I just don’t see how this is more effective than imp overpower, imp rend, steady rage generation from anger management, and the synergy of imp overpower with deep wounds and impale. Additionally, the extra 1g saved to not respec at 40 would be nice to help with saving money for the mount.

Is this just recommended due to faulty server mechanics, like the frontstab rogue builds?

Arms. The /sit then 1 shot something exploit will not be allowed to exist since it allowed Paladins to do better than garbage dps.

That was what I thought. So 5% crit, aoe slow, and battle shout buffs don’t overtake what Arms provides IMO.

Citations would be great…

Yeah, I’m going with Arms for best leveling spec. A big two hander and being super bursty will shorten fights, which helps when you don’t have self heals or big ooc regen.

Edited because I need to lrn2spellguud.

Unfortunately from what I can see there hasn’t been confirmation if /sit crits will proc such abilities. We’ll probably have to wait for beta to confirm whether that works or not, but I’m more curious about whether arms is better if you can’t proc blood craze and enrage on command.

I prefer Arms.

If you take Axe Spec by level 45 you’ll have 10% crit from talents (Axe Spec + Cruelty). You’ll also still have access to Piercing Howl, Imp Battle Shout and Enrage as you get close to 60.

I’ve also heard it said that arms can be much more intuitive to level on a pvp server, given greater sustainability and utility. Also, that it has better tanking abilities while leveling than fury.

2H Fury speck is just as good for leveling as well…

I’m leveling prot, but I have more patience than most, and plan on running every 5-man and doing all the instance quests while leveling. I just don’t like standing there waiting 3 days between 2h swings, not my style.

Prot is not as bad a people say, especially once you get shield slam and 1-handed spec talents, and always having a shield up plus concussion blow improves durability while questing. The key is to wear dps gear and update your weapon/shield often, even if you have to buy something from AH. Maybe even throw a cheap enchant on your weapon and put a shield spike on your shield.

Level Protection…I DARE YOU.

Yes, this is true. Basically, either Arms or Fury works pretty much equally well. Just as long as you use a 2-hander.

Yep, I will probably do the same thing. Granted, it won’t be the fastest way to level but I plan to enjoy the journey.

Im gonna lvl as prot and use a 2h weapon while questing. I know its obviously not efficient but i find it fun

Also, make sure that you tank without a shield for extra credit.

I’ve played warriors for the entire life span of wow…since vanilla.

FURY 2h sword is the way to go… if you want to tank just get S&B until 55ish… then you will need to respect. other than that, fury is the way to go… its faster and less down time. You can even go FURY 2H to be different.

i dont see the point in that, but if someone wants to play that way more power to them.

I’ll probably level Arms, whether it’s better or not for PvE because I want to do PvP as much as possible to break up the grind.

I may switch to Prot for dungeon grinding once I get close to cap though.

Play what you want, if you’re trying to race to level cap on a Warrior, you’ll probably end up frustrated.

The /sit is not a bug or an exploit and WILL be in the game.

The abilities proc when YOU get crit.
crit rate against a sitting opponent is 100%

So you literally sit down to guarantee the mobs crit you so you get a regen/dmg buff.( you still take the crit dmg) once you are hit the game causes your character to stand up, so you do not keep getting crit.

From what I have read Fury is the way to go from 1-60, however after 40 Arms is ALMOST as good, but has better pvp abilties, so if you are on a pvp server its usually better to switch to Arms because the small dps loss from switching is worth the benefit of being better in a pvp/gank situation.

Fury with a 2h until 40, then Arms.

5% crit
Chance for extra rage on hit
2% HP per second for 6 seconds after being crit
25% more melee damage for 12 seconds after being crit
30% extra attack speed after dealing a crit

Then you hit 40, get Mortal Strike, then just continue down Fury again, picking up the same talents you did while leveling to 40.
