IS the social contract a legally binding?

i think you cant even sue them , its in the things you accept.
best you can do is arbitrage. i read that somewhere today actually.

nobody in their right mind would do it anyways. get a new account and rock on :stuck_out_tongue:

Correct. This new social contract is them trying to force players to read some of the existing rules.

Neigh. I’ve had enough years of WoW and a long enough experience in FFXIV to understand why a “social contract” needs to exist in a MMO like WoW. In FFXIV I can do things knowing people will be chill and fun to run stuff with, yes there’s an occasional toxic player but they don’t last long. in WoW, I’ve experienced so much negativity that its one of the worst gaming communities I’ve ever met.

Don’t fall for this troll, if you say anything mean or that I personally disagree with you will be canceled entirely, fired from your job, and shipped off to Siberia to play WoW with polar bears

How do you not know what “legally” means? How do you not know that it applies to laws? How do you not know that private entities do not create laws?

This whole thing is over blown. Just making players read a dumb downed user agreement that won’t actually change anything unlike hiring real mods and trashing the garbage auto moderation would.

The answer to that is a tiny bit complicated but I’ll try to make things a little clearer for you.

  • Our user agreements with Blizzard do get updated all the time. You may not be aware of it but over the years the Tou,ToS and now the EULA gets new versions from time to time.
  • Each one has had a clause in it saying any time they update it that then becomes a “new agreement”
  • The old agreement gets terminated and the new agreement becomes what you’ve agreed to
  • The social contract isn’t something new it’s part of the in game policies that you’ve agreed to follow for years.
  • No there isn’t anything that states what’s been changed as the new agreement is , in the eyes of the law a completely new agreement for you to agree to.

Why? Do you honestly think a “Decline” button wouldn’t do the same?

theres only one option and youre gonna take it!

The Social Contract isn’t anything that isn’t already in ToS. It’s just spelled out in different terms. Basically it encouraging people to play nice.

If you don’t like agreeing to Blizzards terms and contracts then you’re welcome to find another game.

Not gonna lie, that did actually prompted me to see how consistant that is with his 13 other posts, and uhh… i’ve stumbled across this… :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

ty for the answer its was probaly the best ive got all night?

It being part of the in game policies means they can update those without necessarily having you agree to a new EULA.

Also I’m the guy that often posts about changes in the EULA/ToU. I have an archive of older ones too (god bless archive.org)

In a nutshell, no one should have trouble understanding:

  • Don’t be a jerk.
  • Don’t be insulting.
  • Don’t be abusive.
  • Don’t be a toxic dirtbag who gets off trolling others.
  • Blizzard is The Arbiter of the rules.
  • It’s Blizzard’s IP. Their world. Their house. They have the legal right to throw anyone out who they feel is breaking their rules, and an attorney won’t help if that happens.

If anyone is nervous about this, and feels they might accidentally slip up because they have (typing Tourette’s? Behavioral/reflex issues? Anger control issues? Reasons?), they should disable their chat functions immediately.

You do realize it is SUGGESTING people to be nice, not FORCING

Do I need to link the definition of both?

If you think the contract is an affront, then you should feel the same about the original TOS.

Making a sandwich is harder than being nice…

Dear god people nothing is new in the social contract. It’s the same rules that always existed, they’re just putting it directly in front of your face now.

Uh oh the broken one that didn’t do anything, or the butter stick?

I know… hoping people would/could make the definition-connection was probably being ridiculously naïve of me.

So under the old TOS Blizzard was the old Arbiter, completely ineffective and sitting there useless? And now with social contract they are the new Arbiter, made of butter?

Thank you for confirming. :disappointed:
