‘anal’ is profanity? I would see that in Trade all of the time and thought it was short for ‘analyze’. So I would be going to wowhead and analyzing various items and trying to figure out what was so important about them. I finally just gave up because I couldn’t figure it out.
Anal isn’t profanity and I believe legal now in most states

It’s a fantasy world and context - we can all tell the difference between stories and reality, children included. Stories about war and death can be a gentle introduction to harsh realities.
People bringing in all their real-world ugliness though (not just ‘bad words’), and trying to out-do each other with it - yeah, if I was a parent I’d be pretty concerned about subjecting a child to that too.

The profanity filter probably should be customizable. It is not.
Search for an addon to do custom filter.
Anal is not profanity but neither is:

However all of those are filtered. Anal just slipped through the… whatever.
Just report if you think it is a problem. But most likely no one is going to get banned for posting ‘Anal [Thunderfury]’ in trade chat.
You actually just contradicted yourself. You said you understand that he will be exposed to this sort of stuff in middle school but then argued he was 9. Followed up by saying the game was rated T for teen which is middle school/high school. Sounds more like you don’t want to follow the game rating, but you want everyone else to cater to your views/beliefs. If you don’t want them exposed to such language/behavior then the internet is definitely not a place for your kid. Although I’d personally rather teach my kid that they’re going to come across stuff like this but to use common sense/tact in all situations while at the same time making them realize that the beautiful thing about this country is we’re free to express our opinions/beliefs without being persecuted for it. Every moment is a lesson, just depends on whether you want to teach them, or if you’re going to be naive and shield them from everything in life.

This to me seems so funny. A few people have said they would like to play this game with there kids, but with no chat and not grouping with anyone thats not friends and family. In my experience you learn all the bad words from friends and family.

I’m always kind of baffled that people don’t seem to bat an eye at letting a kid play a game where random strangers tell you to go murder and often dismember people and return with their bloody parts to receive a pittance of money, but the word “anal” is where the line is drawn.
