Is the prevalence of youtube part of the community decline

I have to assume so i mean i came to the conclusion im not gonna listen to people tell me what the best piece of gear is at lvl 25 what to spec into what runes to get i mean its insane you cant even play a game and learn it the way you were supposed to anymore if thats the standard everyone goes by for the most part the real hardcore challenge should disable youtube and guides xD thats partially a joke and i know people will be like

OH i wouldnt play with you anyways since you dont care to be the very best like no one ever was by following what everyone else says is the best thing to do. Youre gonna be the reason i wipe etc. I just want to finish the content week 1 and sit wait do it again and complain on the forums and reddit when i get bored that they didnt release level 40 yet.

The community decline started long before Youtube even became popular. DKP was the norm by the end of TBC, the report feature was becoming popular in Cataclysm, you are talking 2010. It was just a matter of time before the two would crush everything and by the time influencers, streamers and gaming channels started to become popular, WoW was already the worst community in the genre.

Its so bad people are too afraid to even chat in General.

It feels like playing legend of zelda while reading a walkthrough or watching a video of someone solve every puzzle doesnt that ruin the fun? I can see if youre stuck but why before youre even stuck.

To be fair when people do chat in general, it’s rarely anything good.

As I said, the DKP system became the norm so long ago that the community was wrecked. It created a group of people that demanded everyone knew everything and squeezed out the extra 0.04% efficiency from their class.

It was obvious over 10 years ago it would create a game that literally hated new people.

People get kinda fixated on “the best”. That’s not really youtube’s fault… that’s our fault, the players.

For myself, I intend to probably take it light in looking up info and just try to discover things for myself. I may look things up later if I have questions but not at the start. I do intend to continue building casual groups for content though. The game doesn’t need to be as intense as people are making it right now and what SoD is providing is a space I can engage with, so I will

You don’t need to be an ultra sweat-lord to be successful in this game!

I play on Mankrik Alliance, if that helps! Feel free to join me

wut

I’ve always been the mindset that streaming and highly accessible information has been the worst thing to happen to gaming. Not because it is bad by itself, but because people will throw the games (and their own sometimes) integrity under the bus for clicks/likes.

Toxic meta trends spread so fast in any game now because of it. As an example Elden Rings pvp where the host goes to an inaccessable location until the invader leaves spread like wildfire because people promoted it as the best afk rune farm. Which it kinda was but still would have been much more rare to see.

I think im going horde for SoD and they probably arent using the same servers i imagine?

it’s been said before, but it is beyond embarrassing that people are making lvl 25 BiS lists for blackfathom depths :expressionless:

The Age of information in general is part of overall Western societal decline.

Everyone was watching videos, many by online personalities, and looking things up on allakhazam and thottbot in vanilla. No-one ever did what you’re saying in WoW, except bads who didn’t know how to use the internet.

What’s embarrassing about being productive?

Before YouTube and Allakazam we had Uo and EQ stratics websites

I think youtube in general is/was GREAT for the community. I think Blizzard has failed the wow community in how it reacted to that input. Listening to certain communities or even cherry-picking of the communities they wanted to listen to depending on the feedback and so on has been a very very mixed bag

Well theres even AI with top comments and stuff on youtube videos if you look at certain reddits they have content entirely written by chatbot and it sounds like real people.

Its meant to further divide people over things, i would say its all the work of the enemy satan but i know most here wont want to hear or believe that. Free speech is silenced now unless it fits the narrative etc. If youre not hive mind then youre a problem to them I know this is off topic but i just get heated about how its really the age of disinformation in more ways than the age of information.

Oh I just meant in general haha, before SoD releases.

I typically play Alliance just 'cause that’s what I started back in 2004 and just tend to prefer. I’ve tried Horde a few times but always get bogged down at level 30. I’m playing with a group of friends right now though and I’ll probably just go with wahtever they do.

With that said, a level cap of 25 means that both factions are going to be pretty accessible. I suspect I’ll be trying both
