It’s a stepping stone. First you remove the need to talk to build the group. Then you remove the need to CC. Retail wasn’t destroyed overnight. It was a slow process with changes on top of changes.
But again… You don’t talk to form groups. You make a macro to spam trade and lfg channels and stand in a major city and spam it.
Yup, he doesn’t seem to get it.
First of all, not everyone does that.
Secondly, the act of engaging in a whisper is socializing. I would say probably 90% of whispers are responded to as long as the person isn’t afk. This means if you make a macro and someone whispers you about it then you are likely to whisper back. You’re engaging with that person.
If you add a system in that removes the need to ever even start a conversation like that then you’ve got a serious flaw in your system.
You still have to talk to accept an invite. Someone has to whisper you and can ask about spec and all that if they need to. It like a bulletin board so you can see what people are running/need for a group instead of going through a scrolling chat. You still have to walk to the dungeon, summon and coordinate.
It changes the way you find groups not really the way groups are made. And the change is more of an organizational change than anything.
such liars so far the grp I form we hardly even talk, just go thru dungeon say bye then done. and all I see in lfg channel is boost or wts boost or gdkp.
LFG just has so many benefits.
-
Not all player use the global LFG channel because it is not on by default.
-
LFG is easier on the eyes than scrolling text
-
You don’t have to spam trade chat
-
You don’t have to make macros
-
You can see what roles are already in a group
The difficulty needs to be higher then. This is how social interaction happens. Sufficient difficulty is a requirement so that you are forced to coordinate a strategy with your group. If it’s trivial then most people will opt not to talk to each other.
Social Interaction > Ease of use
You get your social interaction from over coming challenging dungeons not spamming trade channel.
It’s no less social then spamming a LFG, it’s just a different format.
This is exactly true. If a priest applies to your group all you need to do is whisper them and ask about their spec. LFG doesn’t remove the whisper function.
A better format
You shouldn’t be able to build an entire group without a single whisper. That’s all I’m saying. It’s too impersonal.
Why?
I can macro channel spam and if all people whisper me is:
Tank
Healer
Dps
And I can click and confirm their class can fill those roles I can form a group with minimum whispering.
Having an applicant whisper a single word isn’t social interaction. If I need more information because I want a particular group than I can ask but you can do that with LFG too.
I don’t care if it’s the original, improved interface or auto. ANYTHING is better than having to do with LFG channel and it’s nonsense every day. 99% of the posts have nothing to do with looking for a group. Or hell, even the damn game.
I’m agreeing with you on that.
anyway is good if lfg tool is available from tomorrow onwards. less spam on channel and better ease on finding grp.
You can do all of that even if there is lfg. TBC didn’t have the crazy boost spam, making it significantly harder to advertise for groups. Experience isn’t going to be an exact mirror.
The LFG tool doesn’t remove that. If I’m looking for a dps and I see one in the box looking for the dungeon I’m about to run, I’m still gonna whisper them before sending an invite. Make sure they know the dungeon and mechanics and when to interrupt and CC and all that jazz. And if they don’t, I’ll explain it.
Anyone who blindly invites to a group and the goes with out any Communication is probably gonna have a bad time.
