I’ve been thinking about Soulbinds and covenants and all that, and really, all I feel is apathy towards it. It’s a mess of a system that doesn’t add to my gameplay, and at the end of the day introduces a ton of things I need to worry about that’s not just playing the content I enjoy.
And it’s not like balancing is possible. Sure, they say soulbinds can be the “nob” for tuning, but how’s that possible when there’s a thousand different combinations?
I dunno. It’s just bizarre to me that we’re investing so much time and effort into systems that don’t make the game more fun.

The design goal appears to be drive the people at raidbots insane.

What a complete waste of time at the detriment to half the player base that takes the game even slightly competitively

The only explanation I have for covenants is Blizzard are truly catering to those that will never care about gear in any sort of competitive way. For a total casual (and I don’t mean that negatively), it’s fine. They will not worry about min/maxing, they will not worry about if one conduit is 2-10 percent more powerful. If one conduit slot is socketed with a conduit for Spec A, they won’t care they can’t change it for Spec B. If they socket a conduit on tuesday and get an upgrade that night, they won’t care about waiting a week before they can use the upgrade. They will also not read guides or sim their character. It will just be an RP system for them that gives them something to update and click throughout the expansion.
Again, I certainly don’t mean that in a negative way … and if I’m being honest, I’m a little jealous. It would be nice to not care about being competitive, or certainly less exhaustive … but alas, it’s just the style of play I enjoy. So it is what it is.

I heavily pug and I freaking dread the moment the community gets in its mind that, say, Night Fae Paladin is so bad it can’t even be accepted in M+.

well, I would certainly recommend avoiding pugging if possible. Always more fun to play with guildies that share similar interests/friendliness. Also, I honestly don’t think covenants are going to be that game changing for pugs. I mean, pugs will always choose meta classes, but that will be based on classes themselves. Also, Raiderio I think will still be the ultimate factor and if your score is high enough (aka, have enough experience running dungeons), you’ll still be selected. But of course we’ll see.
Been around here long enough to know something like that will definitely happen.

Working on it. got my main into a guild proper and I’m hoping it’ll last!
And I’d agree, but I think covenants giving dungeon-specific bonuses means that a cov meta will evolve, at least for groups with, say, just one open spot left.

Yes it is designed to fight min max because the systems are caked onto each other so much that you end up having to min max to figure out what is going on.

Love to have a performance variance of 30% but being told that all choices are viable

i do believe the community will get over it youre a tank lol
Instead they’re just going to make it so complicated that Blizzard will never balance it.

My main’s a 470 HPal with relatively decent io and I still get declined from 15s; similar story for my resto shaman, which has a worse io but is 468 and often gets decliend from even 10s and 11s. Even for ‘in-demand’ specs I’ve had issues pugging.

I’m wondering when we’ll get a system that actually lasts and isn’t totally trash canned after the expansion. Seems like every expansion lately is like this twilight zone where all this new stuff happens that we completely disregard 2 years later.

I don’t get why we can’t just have, you know, talents and gear.

I am no min max player but some choices are flat out not even in the ball park let alone same zipcode.
GG.

They should add special DPS increasing abilities into pet battles and no one will care at all

Your pet battle quest is valid and I respect you

There are people who really like that stuff. They really get into figuring out how to maximize their output using systems like that. I’m not really one of those people. But they do exist. They may exist in large numbers. We’ll have to see how it shakes out. I don’t think I’ll be subbed long enough to find out, but I’ll eventually be back for the easy mode version of those systems.
