People with much lower value gear cleared this in vanilla and yet 1.12 talent/gear are wiping here
warcraftlogs putting this as the most struggle boss instead of vael. Are the damage values he’s outputting correct to vanilla data? even a full epic FR tank is getting 2-hit here
Our tanks wearing 315 fr had no issues.
Make sure your taunts are correct and your healers LoS correctly and the fights a pushover.
Also, it’s an endurance fight so healers spamming will oom themselves (pallies excluded) and then be subject to potion/rune cds. Stop casting is important, and things like healcomm really help

I just watched my tank die off the pull. In one sec got hit 5 times in a row. Instadead
Why is your tank wearing FR? Shadow flame cannot be resisted and his melee does way more than the fire AOE.
Just have a priest bubble him during Shadowflame cast

People were also spending week’s worth of practice to progress through Firemaw too. They may have been in an older patch with lower quality gear, but spent much more time learning the fight.
Its been barely 1 lockout, not every guild is going to 1 shot every new raid.

Pretty sure MC spoiled people into a mindset that classic is easy and every boss is a tank and spank that requires zero coordination

It certainly has spoiled a subset of people who don’t remember what Vanilla really was like. MC had barely any mechanics, but its difficulty came with raw through-put and number values. The problem is our characters are vastly over-tuned for the content that were pure number checks. When all your numbers are bigger than what they’re supposed to be…pure number-check fights can be trivialized and brute-forced.
Every new phase/raid that comes out though, content is going to become closer-and-closer to properly tuned for our characters…and mechanics will matter more and more.

is your tank wearing onyxia cloak?
Shadowflame puts a DoT on you if you don’t have the cloak on, that deals 1750-2250 dmg every sec for 10 sec, and at the end of the DoT it explodes for 20,000 unresistable damage that pierces all immunities.
A Priest bubble won’t do a thing, and your tank isn’t going to have Shield Wall up for every Shadowflame cast.
The cloak is mandatory for Tanks or they will die.

Wouldn’t surprise me if the thrash mechanic was messed up with the way things are.

Because players are not as good as they think they are now days. MC was terribly easy and this gave many players false confidence in their Coordination, tanks, healers and DPS.
Well yeah, of course he should have a cloak on. I’m saying shadowflame is the highest damage ability on that fight even with a cloak, and is usually the reason a tank dies. Priest bubble helps a lot with that.
I think the reason the tank usually dies is the triple melee thrash from Firemaw.
The triple thrash can be mitigated, dodged, parried. The shadowflame is a guaranteed 4k-4.6k burst. Only mitigation is priest bubble

The Shadowflame also has a visual and boss mod cue, the triple melee attack can crit and crush a tank in his threat gear. Our tank got one shot when we went in, after he put on a shield it was better but the Shadowflame never was a problem.

why are you guys explaining the boss mechanics, mechanically its already a joke
Im asking about the numbers and if they’re accurate.
Yes the numbers are correct, why would this one boss be wrong? It’s the “struggle” boss because it’s the first boss the tanks need to have proper positioning and the first boss that can kill tanks the way they’ve been gearing in one hit.

Tank doesn’t need threat gear, make him wear full tank gear like they did in vanilla.
DPS runs in and out to reset flame buffet, there shouldn’t be any aggro issues.

Vael is a joke because DPS is no longer an issue.
Firemaw is “harder” because no one bothered with fire resist gear AND because players are doing dangerously high dps in a fight that dumps tank threat.
