Is the Cindercloth Vest Pattern still in the game?

I have been farming it for a while now and I still can’t seem to find a clear answer if it is or if not. I really want this piece but can’t seem to find anyone that can make it.

This can be found in Searing Gorge off a Twilight Fire Guard!

I would know lol. I’ve been parked there a while, I just kept hearing that it hadn’t dropped since cata.

The comments from 10/9/2018 are saying differently, so I’m not sure:

I honestly thought I could make this item. Logged in, looked at my tailoring and Cindercloth Vest is not listed in either my learned or unlearned items. I only have a Cindercloth Robe listed. Very odd :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I did see the pattern and the vest in AH but on realms i have no gold on so I’ll try some more and see what happens. Otherwise, I’m just going to give up lol.

Usually if an item is no longer in the game it will state so on wowhead when you look up the item. Best bet is to check AH b4 you spend hours farming for it.

I have a toon, Kaimilka, on The Venture Co, who can make Cindercloth Vest. If you make a trial clothie on The Venture Co and mail Kaimilka to let her know your new toon’s name she will post you this vest and trust you to then post back the mats and a tip.

The item itself is in game. It hasn’t been removed. But the ability to get it to drop is no longer, according to a GM ticket response.

One of the problems with GM responses is that the GMs are generally not very knowledgeable about algorithmic stuff like how the game generates its drops. This is unfortunately clear from many “GM responses” over the years, and indeed on the Wowhead page linked above for this item.

We obviously can’t see the code they use and the devs never answer these sorts of questions. But we have a couple of strong bits of evidence supporting the theory that when a mob drops an item, it has to pass two tests - is the item on the mob’s drop table; and is the mob the right level to drop the item. GMs and I would expect most people thinking about it casually would understand the first test, but the second seems to surprise everyone.

When Cataclysm hit, a lot of mob levels changed. Some areas like the Hinterlands and indeed Searing Gorge changed a lot. I mention Hinterlands because there was a similar issue - some of the old LW patterns that used to drop off the level 50ish trolls in the original Hinterlands suddenly weren’t dropping any more off the now level 30ish trolls. GMs would look and say “well it’s still on the drop table, just keep trying!” But it would never drop, because it was failing the second test, and the trolls weren’t the right level range to drop it. And eventually they got tired of the complaints, and announced the plans as removed.

Fast forward to 7.3.5. Suddenly mob levels scale to your character level. The first thing this resulted in was a flood of “wow all this rare transmog is dropping in Zul Farrak and Uldaman that wasn’t before”, which is likely explained by the fact that those mobs were set level before but are now level 60 because they’re being run by overleveled characters. The items were always on their drop table, but they were failing the second test before.

What does this mean for the Cindercloth Vest? I presume Kaethas you were grinding them on an overlevel toon (possibly even 120)? So the Twilight Guards were all level 60. I’m wondering if killing them on a character closer to the item level of the Vest plan (which is 52) might make it possible to drop. I have a 53 I can test on at the moment, obviously you can’t prove a negative empirically, but I’ll see what kinds of things do drop and what conclusions we can draw.

I have the pattern, on multiple characters. Make a dk on Thrall, or Hyjal, and level it out of the starting zone so you can equip it and I’ll give you one. Send me an in game character mail.

PS I have no idea whether or not you can still learn xmog from plate wearers equipping anything lower or if you need a cloth specific character.

I can make it on this character, Cho’gall horde

It is cloth Chest so you’ll need a clothie, 5 bolts of rune cloth, rune thread and 2 hearts of fire, your mats tip appreciated but idc

Thank you guys for the replies and the offers but I don’t think i can get enough money to tip you guys or even buy the mats on a new server unless you’re in Norgannon-Kargath or maybe even Quel’thalas.

Transmogs are only learned for your class’ specific armor type. Plate can only learn plate, cloth can only learn cloth, etc.

On Low Pop. RP realms, this recipe can drop for you.

you don’t need to buy the mats or tip me on Thrall, I have tons and would be happy to pass this on to you, especially since it seems important to you … but apparently you do need to level a clothie to 60.

I have the pattern on Zul’jin and it requires a lvl 47 character.

EDIT - There is also one in the AH on Sen’jin I could buy for you.

Wow you guys are really cool I’ll get on and mail you guys.

I am almost positive that i recently acquired this drop on my Alliance tailor, will have to check later.
