Honestly personally im underwhelmed. 20 years of wow, 30 years of blizzard. I would want to see 3 things for the event to be successful. Homage to the past, homage to blizzard, and something to make me look forward to the future, and all of it needs to be epic.
Handling the past i think they did the best on but i dont think they went quite far enough. The events are okay but a bit played out at this point. The t2 set remaster is cool, my favorite thing they have done, love how they included the new classes, now id love to see t1 and t2.5 given the same love. T1 because it is the start of everything, t2.5 because it looked great and was still classic. T.5 gets an honorable mention here as well.
The homage to blizzard and its other ips as far as i can tell comes jn the form of the bird mount. Im a mount collector and will likely get this mount, but i wont use it. Its ugly, bulky and clunky looking for a giant awkward looking bird. Mounts are expected, but you cant phone in the mount for this event. Show us some creativity. That being said, even if the mount was great it would be week for celebrating 30 years of blizzard. My brother and i grew up playing against each other with rock n roll racing. We cherish those memories, and the sound track is a favorite play list for us. Thats not even mentioning the original diablo and how many countless hours we played that. What if the caverns of time detected a strange time and space anomoly we had to investigate, we have to defend the racers from some og diablo invasion. What aboht starcraft? Some updated pets and mounts from the old franchises brought in would be great.
As far as getting me excited for the future, best bet is getting me excited to play. Release a long awaited feature. A class or race players have want forever, something interesting.
I know the event is just a few months out so a lot of what i said is impossible. Im just saying the current event as planned is severly lacking. I know blizzard also likely hasnt shown us everything they have planned. I just want more.
And all the content is going into queueing pools and likely future time walking events later.
Really great stuff. Probably the most excited I’ve been for a WoW event ever. (Well minus WOTLK prepatch plague event, that was a glorious moment in MMORPG history)
It does seem I guess a tad overwhelming if you raid, do Mythic+ content, or PVP and still make time to participate in this anniversary event to collect all the items you want.
But boy am I going to make it a full-time job to collect it all.
I’m hyped and so are my kids. It’ll be a lot of fun, and it should be. This is where all the silly stuff should happen, it’s an appropriate venue for it.
Now if they’d make the story darker again I’d be happiest.
I’ll do this anniversary event like I do all events either ignore them or do the little extra stuff while waiting for my BG queues to pop I don’t really care about the rewards.
As a Monk and Pandaren player, I am extremely overjoyed that we’re getting a set that looks -really- good on us. Everything else is just icing on the cake.
The anniversary event sounds like a LOT of fun to me. I’m very excited to see the old dungeons come back and I’m also looking forward to playing AV again. My all-time favorite battleground.
