Is tanking easier in wow as opposed to ff14

The consensus seems as far as I can tell that wow its easier to hold aggro than in ff14. anyone got input??

It’s pretty easy to keep so long as you stay in your tank stance for a bit to build up that cushion of protection. And if you raid, the ability to transfer 25% of your total threat to the other tank helps keep it smooth.

Everything is easier when you only have 5 to 6 buttons to worry about verses 20.

Yeah it’s pretty easy. As long as you spam AoE these days you won’t lose aggro. Maybe the occasional taunt. They even took the ranged threat generator for most tanks off CD (aka heroic throw). Your only real challenges will come in timing your mitigation and mechanics.

I don’t know, I’ve been ripping aggro off tanks a lot nowadays. In both games.

In 14, there are tank stances which cause you to do less damage, but generate more threat, and threat combos to get threat. Taunts don’t generate any forced aggro but just put you +1 over highest guy, and Tank swaps are a two-man task even for single-target bosses, One guy taunts, and the other tank gives them even more aggro with Shirk, effectively a Tank’s version of instant misdirect. That effectively creates an infinite way of generate more ‘enmity’ out of nothing to keep them ahead on aggro so they can swap into damage stances. Plus every DPS has a way to either cut their aggro in half, or reduce the amount they generate on a lengthy cooldown.

So in 14, if you don’t have gear, you can still hold threat against super-DPS just by using tank stance and threat-generating combos.

In WoW, tanks just generate more aggro by default, but most DPS can’t reduce their aggro. If you don’t have gear, you won’t be able to hold aggro or keep it if there’s a super-strong DPS.

Those 20 buttons do a good job creating the illusion of difficulty. It’s still largely memorization and using X button to unlock X button to unlock X button via their systems.

They’re different playstyles. WoW uses a priority system with lots more procs and the like while FF14 still uses rotations.

To the simpler folk more buttons automatically = harder, but in reality your choice is usually between using the 1 or 2 optimal buttons at any given time in either game.

I’d say so. It’s harder than Legion, but still trivial. Especially if a rogue or hunter are in your group.

This would explain the excessive pruning the last few expansions. Gotta simplify stuff so everyone can play.

Raiding in BC (when I started)

  • Drop totems
  • Keep Flame Shock up (usually)
  • Lightning Bolt spam and Chain Lightning if mana permitted

Boy howdy, I’m sure glad it’s not so complicated now days or players like me wouldn’t stand a chance! Good thing I had all those buttons I never used so I could feel like I was better at the game!

If it’s so much better today then why don’t you raid? Hiding your profile doesn’t hide your armory and achievements, btw.

Because I don’t have the time anymore. Life happens. I do what I enjoy in the game, and I no longer enjoy sticking to a raid schedule.
