Hi,
I now have 4 pieces tier of T3, which gives a set bonus: " 4 pieces: [Increases Attack Power by 50 for both you and your pet."
After doing some testing it seems that the 50 AP bonus is an aura which only activates when pet is summoned and ALIVE. If pet is dead or not summoned the aura is off and you don’t get the 50 AP bonus. Is that working as intended?
Thanks.
Would like an official answer on this too… seems like a poorly implemented mechanic. Should be just a straight to sheet buff or baked in to AoTH like t2.
Yes it’s working as intended, it’s not a bug.

15:50 — the hunter and his pet has the attack power buff (spell=28758)
15:54 — the pet dies, and the hunter immediately loses the attack power buff
17:55 — the hunter and his pet has the attack power buff (spell=28758)
18:01 — the pet dies, and the hunter immediately loses the attack power buff
18:15 — the hunter is in a battleground without a pet active, and has no attack power buff

Also there’s a comment by jabs on the Cryptstalker comment section on wowhead dating from 2006 confirming the behavior.

yeah that doesn’t seem like it’s working as intended as it’s intent is to buff both you and the pet, it doesn’t state “when pet is active” at all. It’s a crap set 4p for raiding as the pet will always be dead for the most part
I can confirm that currently it only provides the buffs with a pet active and not dead. This does not correspond with the set text that simply indicates that it provides you and your pet 50 AP. There is no indication that you pet has to be active.
Currently in Naxx there are a lot of fights that trying to keep your pet alive is simply not possible and this set bonus falls short. Blizzard needs to provide further confirmation about the intent of this set bonus as hunters are already bottom tier for true DPS specs.
It’s the intend, in TBC they clarified the tooltip to specify that pet need to be alive.
