I understand the argument people have for it but if you listen to the trailer.
You can hear statements such as… Icecrown a Monument to “Our” suffering. Being a monologue and nobody to really manipulate why would she say this? She later goes on to refer to the world to a prison. And saying she will set us all free.
Less obvious statement which could also be looked deeper into is why does she say Bolvar is unfit to wear the crown? What makes him a Usurper? I think there is some questions that this video raises that needs answered. It’s not just this video though there is other moments threw out this expansion where she talks about a bigger more important source being a puppet master over us.
Most important thing to remember when watching this video is much of it is her talking to herself. So this is a insight to her true feelings.

Yes, she’s looking for a way to escape death and eternal suffering in the maw. She cares not a whit for anyone other than how they can help her achieve her self-serving goals.

Then why does she in her self talk refer to it as a Monument to Our suffering instead of MY suffering? It makes no sense if you don’t care about others suffering to acknowledge it in that way.
It’s pretty easy to justify wrongdoing with a little mental gymnastics.
Persuading others that its for their benefit is a cinch.

She’s always been in it for herself.
She’s always been just as Evil as she was this expac too.
I am not sure how this is surprisng.

Then explain/answer the questions?
lets not forget the jailer is a titan.
Just because she can see that others have suffered at the hands of Arthas doesn’t mean she cares about those others suffering.

Because she is an insane egomaniac.
Has been since she regained her freewill.
She was also kind of a dick when she was alive.

But it actually sort of does. People that don’t care about others don’t generally acknowledge their suffering. They can see it but they don’t acknowledge it. Acknowledgment is a sign of caring.
we call her a monster but i bet our toons have killed more people than her for less

Do you think the writers at Blizzard are good enough to insert nuanced dialogue like that into a cinematic to give us clues? I guess we’ll find out when Shadowlands rolls around.

Meh, maybe at one point, but the producers retconned everything she ever said or did in the past as “Just a lie to reach THIS goal. She never cared”.
So…yeah, just give up on the story like we all have.

She probably thinks that what she’s doing will benefit everyone, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t doing this out of selfishness.
Most people need to be able to justify their bad deeds in order to feel okay about them.
Blizz did say her goals and the Jailor’s are basically the same. So still lots to learn.
But I think Sylvanas has kind of a twisted view that undeath and the immortality it gives is actually a gift and better than life itself. That life is inherently flawed because it’s temporary. She says this too after Saurfang’s fight, that she doesn’t care about the living and “nothing lasts.”
The cycle of life and death could be the “world prison” she refers to and is trying to destroy. But either way, villains tend to have no doubts about their actions. Sylvanas believes what she’s doing is right and maybe even for the greater good, but that’s just her opinion. Sargeras had a similar thing. To him it was for a greater cause, to everyone else it was a serious problem.

I was recently running through silverpine doing the quests on my alt.
She goes on the trip with the ‘hero’ to the frontline explaining what Arthas did to the people of Lordaeron and her own and how in death they are still fighting for it. She then explains how the Alliance want to take it from them because they do not see the Forsaken as the once people here. She then insists she will never let this happen and that this is their home.
I’m listening to all this and i’m like "Wow…yeah, I’ll definitely fight for this". Then I remember what the producers said with the retcon and now i’m like "oh…so this is all a lie because you want to ‘feed the maw’…yeah…ok…I guess…"

I saw another Sylvanas loyalist say they enjoyed having her as a leader precisely because she has no qualms about incinerating people in their beds and blighting people and that’s why they like her. If you’re going to be evil, own that.
Sylvanas wants desperately to die, she obviously can’t die or she’ll face endless torment. The Valkyr (and the forsaken) were always just her “bulwark against the infinite”. Does she care about them? She’s said he feels pity for them but she’s still willing to send all of them in her stead. We don’t really know her endgame but my theory is she justifies all this by presumably allying with the Jailor and somehow fixing this thereby freeing all the souls damned to the maw unjustly and winning her redemption. After which she will most likely kill herself or allow herself to die.
Sylvanas has justified killing her own troops on more than 1 occasion for her goal. Even if she is trying to change the afterlife, she’ll take anyone out in the process.
I’d say yes, her way of doing things is incredibly selfish. She’ll trap anyone in the Maw along the way regardless of what her end goal is. If temporarily sending people to hell justifiable? Is blighting her own people to eventually attempt to save them–maybe–justifiable?
This is all assuming she even has a selfless goal at the end. Plus, if her help is needed for afterlife stuff, there’s no guaranteed success in the first place.
Ya, selfish.
Here’s my theory:
The Death Machine was broken when Arthas died. His valkyr knew this and Sylvanas got a glimpse when she jumped off ICC. In Cata, she wanted to prevent this so started the propagation of new Forsaken. It also helps put a buffer of bodies between her and The Maw.
By Legion, she realized it can’t be stopped so… she has to expand. She’ll be there when the barrier around The Maw breaks and we get Maw assaults in 8.1.
This world is a prison because we have no control of our afterlife. But maybe we should.
