I’m coming back to WOW after a few years and I want an easy, relaxing class and spec to play for solo PVE, dungeons and maybe LFR. Icy Veins lists this rotation under easy mode for Survival Hunter. Is it really this simple?
- Cast Kill Command on cooldown. Try not to be at high Focus when using it.
- Cast Wildfire Bomb on cooldown.
- Maintain the Serpent Sting DOT by refreshing it whenever there is less than 3 seconds remaining on it.
- Cast Mongoose Bite to spend Focus when there is nothing else to do. Try to never let your Focus reach maximum by using this ability aggressively when you are close to the Focus cap.
Thanks!
If you’re not using a single talent, sure. Once you start adding in stacking Mongoose Bites, working around Coordinated Assault, etc, it gets more complicated.
No rotation is hard anymore. Not by a long shot.

When i stated it in Bfa, i actually like it more than Bm. It hits surprisingly hard and behind BM, is certainly very mobile and is like a Warrior in design.
Yup, it’s that fun and that easy. I like melee SV, it’s an excellent spec. However, when I raid, I need distance, so…

Yeah, without a few specific talents Survival is fairly basic. Most specs are.
Difficulty nowadays mainly comes from encounter design, planning around cooldowns and mechanics.
I’d say marksman or beast are the two specs with the easier rotations in my opinion. Survivals rotation just feels really off when you don’t have a certain amount of haste to back it up, again in my opinion.
So yeah I disagree with icy veins I guess.

MSV is an abomination to the hunter class.

Much like your abomination of a comment.

Melee Survival is a 9/10 spec and a breath of fresh air for the class. It just shouldn’t have come at the expense of Ranged Survival.

Hence the abomination. If i wanted to play a melee class I would have rolled a rogue or warrior. I wanted a range class with a pet. Only one of the three specs offers that now.

I think the question was if it was easy not why isn’t it ranged, take that bs to the several other threads they have bashing it

Oh ok… I get it. It is easy, it is also an abomination of a spec. Fixed that right up fer ya.
It’s also something I’ve wanted since Vanilla.
Something isn’t an “abomination” just because it replaced something you liked. BfA Sub Rogue is an abomination. Survival? Nah.

Survival still needs work, to be honest. Hopefully they do something in the upcoming expansion to make these specs more fun.
Beastmaster is easier tbh.
I’ve always thought a melee spec would be cool. I’m just not crazy about how SV ended up. The refreshing of SS every time you blink is obnoxious. Mongoose spam gets boring pretty fast and super repetitive.
I also don’t like how raptor strike and mongoose both were implemented into the spec. Leveling up using raptor to then switch to MB. I’d have preferred a longer duration on SS, and utilize both raptor and MB in the rotation instead of picking between one or the other. Only using raptor leveling until you’re able to get MB. Seems silly to use raptor for so long to then never be of use once MB is available.
I think it would have been cool having a longer duration on SS. Have WFB as is, but incorporate raptor and MB in the rotation together. Maybe MB could apply a bleed and after 3 stacks raptor would deal additional damage. Raptor being the hard hitting ability of the spec.
Or maybe instead after raptor was used , it would open a window where MB deals additional damage. Could even make wing clip have an extra benefit. Maybe when slowed by WC the crit chance is increased when using raptor.
I like many also wish BM was made the melee spec and SV kept as ranged instead. Would just be more fun being in melee with pet, especially popping beastial wrath, also being able to use your exotics as SV.
SV could have been kept ranged and given some tweaks and cool new abilities.
Not sure how long ago you played, but back in BC, youd spec BM, create a steady shot macro, and spam that 1 button all day. So, things are definitely harder than those days
Wrath of lich king, put all Ret paladin dmging skill into a cast random macro, bing it to mouse wheel and scroll to victory.
PvE was never hard to do the rotation. I guess what you’d call the complicated part is to know when to use certain CD and not to… and to watch for certain buff during X event with a boss.
