Yeah, and you can’t do Kshot in SV spec without a 2Her. Process that.
I don’t know what to say except that MM does RSV better than SV right now. MM doesn’t have the problem of weapon functionality because though you use only one weapon type(ranged), EVERY ABILITY MM HAS WORKS WITH IT. And to think that I was seriously considering playing SV if I can use a ranged weapon for EVERY ability except Strikes/Bites and Carve/Butchery, the key being that Steadies and Arcs and Multishot go with a ranged weapon and Strikes/Bites and Carve/Butchery go with a 2H melee weapon.
In other words, maybe a FEW abilities would be exclusive for a weapon type and interchangeable in role. That way you can do SV any which way.
It’s just as hilarious that DETERRENCE hadn’t even come back, among other things.
Not sure why they didn’t Turtle → Deterrence and SotF → Turtle. Could bring back old animation for Deter and make Turtle our wall. But that would make sense both visually and thematically, so 1000% won’t happen.
We just can’t turn off damage, even when it shuts down our offense as a tradeoff. And yet at the same time we have no mobility either. I speak for all three specs in that way. The fact that SV can’t use Harpoon like Outlaw uses their Grappling Hook is also a slap in the face.
Tell me why SV can’t use an omnidirectional gapcloser/gapopener and OL can. Has it ever occurred to anyone that maybe SV wants to use Harpoon to GET TOWARDS OR AWAY from a target? But you would think that OL should have Harpoon and SV should have Grappling Hook, since Rogues in general still have ways to protect themselves. OL’s have a FASTER-ACTING Hook that has a 40 YARD range for 30 sec CD, but SV has a normal-acting Harpoon that has a 8-30 YARD cd that does a little extra damage and focus regen every 20 sec. Hook: 1, Harpoon: 0.
OL is 15% faster on foot cookie-cutter than SV, and OL can do Pistol Shot and BTE up to 20 yards! OL is then already a better MSV than SV, bespeaking nothing of the other exciting spec options for Rogue.
So I ask all don’t get me started on how craptastic MSV is. Other melee specs do MSV WAY better. MM and BM does RSV way better.
Dont forget aspect of the eagle! Lol seriously why cant instead of kill shot have a melee finisher called go for the throat! Why cant we throw our polearm? Why cant you face strike someone and stun them? Why cant you parry and disarm? The hybrid ranged melee just sucks! Badly! One or the other i dont care, but not inbetween!
Actually, SV is one of the most mobile melee in the game. You have 4 gap closers in Harpoon, Flanking Strike, Spearhead, and Coordinated Assault. You also get an OOPS button with Disengage. Our CDs for in and out are kinda better than theirs with short Harpoon and Disengage vs Shadowstep and Grapling Hook. I’m not saying SV is great or anything, but suggesting they aren’t mobile is inaccurate.
I find that, even when bursting, I’m not just spamming MBs. It’s usually (with CA) something like KS, Bomb, MB MB, repeat. Weave in FS and/or KC when necessary. This is PvP, so maybe it’s different in PvE?
Bring back arcane shot instead of Aspect of the eagle! replace Aspect of Eagle with a cost refund buff to arcane shot and give that talent an effect that can stack that can proc more KC and consumed by Mongoose bite for bust damage and add arcane shot to viper venom. That way we can open as Range and burst in melee.
I frequently use my harpoon on an off target to create distance from the enemy who is training me. SV mobility is actually so good. Hunter defensives are fine. The problem is our self healing is 1/50th of what everyone else has. So hunter in general is more reliant on having a healer around. But we have the tools to effectively mitigate incoming damage.
I will say some of the cooldowns of our defensives should be reduced a bit to be more in line with other defensives. Our defensives when used though power wise I think is fine.
Harpoon is harpoon, for hooking prey. Grappling hook is grappling hook. 2 different things.
Because Survival is Survival, not Ranged Survival.
If you’re only spamming MB, you are doing it wrong
Things like these need to be addressed and offer a Survival counterpart. There is some wonkiness that needs addressing, but its not as bad as opinions like these below:
That’s just saltiness. Kinda funny to see the same select posters say the same things when they don’t really have a clue how the spec works, its rotation / playstyle - and flat out don’t even play the spec
To be fair I have seen that go both ways, for example when MSV fans say that you can play ranged survival right now if you spec right into MM (you can’t).
I’m just going to laugh at you in my OL 130% movement non-stealth speed. Unlike Trailbrazer it’s ALWAYS on, even during combat. Sprint is also better than Cheetah too.
I’d say they’re a step above Paladin and DK mobility, so probably not the LEAST mobile of all melee. Too bad Paladin kicks their can in defensives, healing, and damage.
Isn’t it cute that many gapclosers don’t need a target at all? And said off target has to be a HOSTILE target too, so you can’t target a FRIENDLY like that.
Leather-wearing classes can do laps and laps around SV, and one plate-wearing class.
Pretty much a support class.
Roar of Sacrifice only negates crit damage, but you’re still taking normal hits. We can’t dodge very well, we can’t parry, we don’t have Deterrence, Turtle can’t protect us completely from DoTs and AoE damage. That leaves only SotF.
My point exactly. They’re nothing like SV because they’re BETTER. The smart people actually get it. The smart people have already made better choices.
Yeah. One’s actually better than the other.
Which means nobody should be playing it if they want a better SV experience. If Hunter became a two-spec class of MM and BM next Tuesday it wouldn’t make the smallest of differences how the community adjusts to it.
I’ve been around and nobody has even mentioned Outlaw Rogues being better on principle. Obviously everyone since Legion gave it to the Rogue class in general and simply wrote off post-Leg SV. I just threw that one as an example. To compare and contrast two redesigned class/specs from Legion, OL was a HUGE improvement from the old Combat.
I don’t have a reason to be salty except that now, Blizzard can’t even do weapon inclusivity correctly on DF talents. If I can do most of everything with the weapon type I want, I’d reconsider seeing if SV is worth it.
But no, my current build(even at 60) practically kills and destroys things without me needing much in the way of mobility and defensives.
If you’re playing with the classic notion of Hunter mobility being “getting away,” then your statement is accurate. HOWEVER, you can use any of the abilities I listed to get away from your attacker as well as engage (this is from a PvP perspective, assuming there’s another enemy in vicinity, which there very nearly always is.) We have a good amount of flexibility in our kit as SV. Honestly, if they just changed the SV mastery to leech, I’d be pretty happy, despite the general lack of cohesion across Hunter as a whole.
Either or. I’ve seen both classes use Steed and Wraith Walk both offensively and defensively. Thankfully Disengage is omnidirectional, but every spec has that anyway.
You seem to argue that the other melee class/specs have too much flexibility. That’s one way to say that SV has a good amount; the other melee class/specs have way more than what’s needed for competitive play.
Why, if we just turbo-prune all the other class/specs to SV level, we’d have a Gucci class/spec balance. How does that sound? Let’s just nerf all the other melee to get them down to SV level.
Don’t mind if I step aside from the pitchfork-armed mob of Rogues, Warriors, DHs, Monks, Druids, and Shamans. I’d rather not get involved in what they’re going after.
I’m still okay with it being a dump stat unless they really buff into a well-baked cake. With Haste, Vers, and Crit being important, Msty only gets in the way of that.
No matter how good we say SV is now, many decisions have been made by the devs, hardcores, and cores, and SV was never a part in any of them. While other melee class/specs gets to have a seat, it’s SV who gets to sit on the floor. But we got to look on the bright side; at least SV is not sitting outside the clubhouse. It moved up some in the world…
To be fair, grappling hook is entirely utilitarian because it’s used solely to get around. It doesn’t deal damage or generate resources for Rogues. Harpoon seems to be built on the idea of throwing a harpoon at the target, the harpoon piercing said target and then the hunter pulling themselves to the target. Doesn’t make a lot of sense with smaller enemies, but feels right at home if you’re fighting a large creature like a giant or a dragon.
I don’t think there’s abilities that serve dual functionality in WoW (that is, abilities that can be ground-targeted but can also be used on a specified target), so I do wonder if Harpoon can even be modified to do both things like you want.
It doesn’t feel good because mechanically it lacks a payoff. That Mongoose Fury window also feels restrictive since you’re supposed to weave Kill Command between uses of Mongoose Bite to built stacks.
Something I’ve noticed is that because Mongoose Bite is treated as a talent instead of as a core part of how SV plays, the design that surrounds it isn’t very cohesive.
