Is it viable at all? Assassination feels too slow and I dont want to be a pirate. Sub fits my void elf race so well…but I literallt never see anyone playing it. What gives?
mostly, yes. At very high gear levels with just the right azerite traits and perfect play it can compete but assassin will usually do more damage for less work. I like sub too and it does indeed fit with void elves very well but I am sticking with assassin for now.
It’s absolutely viable in PvP, but in PvE the juice generally isn’t worth the squeeze. You lag and mistime something, or you have a loss in uptime (have to kite away all of a sudden, boss mechanics, whatever), your damage will plummet. Assassination is significantly more forgiving (and I hate it).
Assassination will feel slow until you start getting good gear and get your haste to a reasonable level. Remember to get your garrote and rupture up on cleave packs and keep them poisoned. Doing so will ensure a flow of energy to keep you GCD locked.
Pretty much for PvE, in fact it might be the worst PvE DPS spec in BFA. It’s got some good changes in Shadowlands that might revive it though.
It’s decent for PvP though.
It’s fun to play in pvp, but you are really cutting yourself short if you don’t run Assassination because it seems like Nightblade never sticks around long enough and you don’t do much damage outside of Cd’s. However you can do some heavy bombs though if you can get the stars to align.
It is a ton of fun to run around being a jerk to people using Shadowblade’s teleport and the double Shadowstep. You can CC the hells out of a ton of people and disrupt enemy casters which helps your team overall.
Sub is only viable in 2s pvp, really. Or just random bgs. Pve sub is terrible, unfortunately. Sin relies a lot upon the right essences, traits, gear. Brain dead easy and boring.
Sin out performs sub in nearly every aspect of the game.
Quote for effect: Snickers is absolutely right. But, the fotm spec usually shifts and rotates as soon as people get comfortable with it.
Sub isn’t dead. It’s just hiding in the shadows.
Assassination got all the bleeds. If you liked old sub just play sin.
My rogue isn’t terribly geared up, but I’m loving sub, anyway. BG’s are a blast. I can’t do much 1v1, but I have often times been the reason we win.
People rushing the base in WSG? Sap someone in the front and watch the whole group stop dead in their tracks to try and find you.
Flag carrier running to the base? Sap them. Sap them again for the 3 seconds. Sap them again. Blind. By the time they’ve got control of their character, your team has caught up to finish the job.
Healer keeping the FC up? Interrupt them more or less indefinitely.
It’s insane how much you can control an entire BG just by being a pain in the butt.
I love this class.
I agree with you. Even at max level, Sub and Outlaw are extremely fun if you abandon the “MUST DO DMG” mindset. You have so much control over fights and objectives with your kit, and supporting your team to success feels so good.
That’s a maaaaassive understatement lol.
But to answer the OP’s question, Sub works in PVP as a CC-centric spec with no damage of its own. In PVE, and especially in mythic +, Sub is absolutely horrendous.
People only seem to care about dmg now an days, a great offense helps a team after all.
I really like the concept of sub, but having the game shun you for playing it is a painful experience when you want to be a good and effective player.
To quote a saying from League of Legends, “death is the best CC”. Why spam 20 Cheap Shots on the entire enemy team, when you can press triple Nothing Personal Vendetta + Mechagon trinket + BotD and annihilate one person?
Honestly, it’s not like CS spam is even that great. Since you don’t have any other CC to break up the DR, by the second hit on the same target your stun is already nothing but a stutter.
It is perfectly viable, it’s basically even with outlaw in raids and is great in pvp. It does require more button pushing than assassination does, for sure. If you don’t want to play it but want to make assassination faster, I recommend putting as much haste as possible on your gear and using the vigor talent to give yourself enough energy all the time.
Well, I mean, I’ve been gone for months. I can only no life so hard. lol
Keep having fun, it only gets better with Subtlety.
I’m in for thick and thin, my friend! Looking forward to it.
Sub is one of the lowest DPS specs in the game unfortunately. However as Assassination you stack Expedient corruptions, you wan’t at least 7 of them. With enough haste you switch to Exsanguinate/Deeper Stratagem over Toxic Blade/Vigor and you have near limitless Energy.
What yawl think about Outlaw? I do like Sin but some some reason I like the play style of Outlaw. Can an Outlaw rogue at least hold their own in a dungeon (I don’t raid anymore, by the way)
