From what I understand they wanted to get all the systems out with the x.0 patch which got me thinking…
Do they plan on doing a WoD on this with a hard core coasting on content updates for the expansion?

No, if we follow the A and B theory, BFA was the development catch up expansion.
And Shadowlands will be more comparable to Legion.

Think the problem is they just have an A team when they need an A B and C team to really get quality content out in 4-6 month periods.
I agree. I don’t like this back and forth quality we have with expansions. Id rather each expansion get the same amount of effort put into them.
BfA had a pretty strong amount of patch content compared to most expansions.
Legion I feel had the most, but BfA was probably tied with MoP for 2nd.

Quantity does not always translate to quality.

It’s true, I feel it was probably 3rd after Legion and MoP for solid patch content.
New mega dungeon, new zones, reused areas, solo content, new dailies, new campaign quests, mini-raid, etc.
True, but lack of quantity definitely translates to bad customer retention.
There’s a saying, Nine woman can’t make a baby in one month. Most people think the lesson is there are some things you just can’t brute force to completion with more resources. The actual lesson is if you need 9 babies in one month you need to plan ahead.
Over 100 million unique accounts. That’s a lot of people that never came back. If they want to hold people they need quality content updates every 6 months not 6 month sub deals.

WoD had content updates? Kidding, sort of.
But the idea is with the systems completed now they won’t have to layer more on in the future. Like essences and corruptions in BfA. So by 9.3 or whenever we won’t have three other things to grind out too. Might get more renown levels and soulbind expansions, but nothing entirely different.
Which is good because it means no radical changes to balance around. Shouldn’t have any bad effect on other content. If anything they can devote more attention to that.
It’s modern blizzard though.
I really think borrowed power every major patch is their thing now.
I fully expect a new "soul alignment " mega abilitiy or addendum gear relic or something that scales up the power on your class covenant ability.
Like they recently nerfed covenant abilities.
What if they give you a new grind in 9.1 to boost those abilities to actual usefulness?
I’m not sure I buy the narrative that essences and corruption were reactionary designs. They felt more like planned progression and they defined the story and the content for the expansion zones.
Without new systems to define content will there be new content?

Probably not. It was very evident in the WoD beta that things were getting cut left and right. To my knowledge there’s no actual content in SLs that has been cut so far. So in other words, I think you would know already if they were cutting this expansion short.
That said, I wouldn’t expect more systems to pop up like corruptions and essences. They’ll probably just add more legendaries and renown levels throughout the rest of the expansion if I had to guess
At this point I’m more convinced it is.
Professions, pets, questing, no archeology, the extremely basic first dungeon, extremely basic capital…
It’s kind of looking like a repackaged Argus with bare bones expansion accoutrements.
And I’d rather go level my toons in WoD zones.
On the plus, the zones are pretty. Little too much hallway paths, but they’re pretty hallways.
I think this game is long past that. It’s just one long B from here on out. There will be better B’s than others, but probably the age of A’s is finished.
Around 3 months in and speculation is now pointing to a later than July X.1 patch… ( Just concept art at the moment )
