Is Shadow going to be "desirable" in 8.1?

I've seen the "changes". It looks like some numbers tuning that should have happened three months ago. I haven't crunched numbers but, I'll guess a 10% overall DPS buff at best, and a probable nerf to our cleave. Still bottom third I'm sure.

I cannot go through 8.0 again. Benched for M progression, unpuggable for keys, almost worthless for key progression etc. It's been miserable, I'm surprised I've seen as much content as I have (6/8M). I do not want to main a joke spec again.

Basically? Do you think shadow is actually going to be viable for semi-competitive play in 8.1.?

Other than the number tuning, they didn't give us anything new that will all of a sudden make us desirable for anything.

For sure. Still F-tier utility, especially in a raid environment. But if our damage is competitive that matters less.
I've seen very mixed reviews, some saying 8-9% dps buff and some say 4.3% dps buff.

I've also seen some saying you'll see a noticeable difference if youre not running CoI, and that if you are running CoI its essentially just a wash.

I guess honestly only time will tell, but im holding out for some more tweaks or changes seeing as this is pretty bull!@#$ of a change that people have been waiting months and months for.

Well its both really. I'd say about 3% if you used CoI and 5%-6% if you didnt though.

It's already viable for semi-competitive play now. Any numbers buff in the upward direction will help.

Given the mechanical issues, I'm not sure we'll see any spriests in world first push unless the damage profiles of the fights dictate it. End of the day, a lock gate is still generally more useful than a life grip, and world first guilds have a lot more access to additional geared alts than the rest of the raiding scene.

Brez from engineering combined with m+ targeted nerfs for the outliers will help with the stigma for shadow. Raids we're already fine. 8.1 looks better all around, but the question is really to what degree.
Not if you work off the definition of the word desirable:

de·sir·a·ble
/dəˈzīrəb(ə)l/Submit
adjective
1.
wanted or wished for as being an attractive, useful, or necessary course of action.
"it is desirable to exercise some social control over technology"

synonyms: attractive, sought-after, in demand, popular, desired, covetable, coveted, enviable; appealing, agreeable, pleasant; valuable, good, excellent; informalto die for
"a desirable location"

Shadow priest have not been desirable since Legion.

I think the numbers buff will help a lot, shadow priest already is performing decently... but the main problem with these 8.1 "reworks" is they are bandaid fixes at best and not really addressing the fundamental issues with the specs.

I watch a lot of top M+ streamers and they suspect that shadow will be competitive if not top tier after the changes however I don't think many people will play it simply because it still feels utterly awful to play and none of the 8.1 changes seem to be helping that fact.

In legion you didnt want them in mythic+ either though.
legion EN when surrender was good
We'll be in a decent spot if it actually is a 10% buff. ST will still be poor but on multi target fights we'll be quite solid.
Sure make more dispel or mass dispel content
It's basically a numbers pass, but fundamentally the feel of the whole voidform-based gameplay system hasn't changed. I will admit the quality of life changes are nice (and much needed).

My biggest issue isn't with damage output or utility, it's the core gameplay of the spec. Damage output is an easy thing to fix, they can easily go from underpowered to competitive just by turning some knobs. But what the spec really needs is a full revamp and I seriously doubt it'll happen until the next expansion. I'd rather have shadow orbs back.
To save the TLDR - No. They won't be, there's still major problems for Shadow Priests since the loss of our Artifact weapon that made us semi-viable. We're decent, but without any tools to bring to raids or utility that makes us worth something. We remain in the garbage bin.

More dispel content won't be enough, and only further encourage blood elf stacking as Arcane Torrent is an AoE dispel.
