Or is a Magister designated to players who are extremely good mages in pvp or what ever they play. Like top rank people. Or can any Joe shmoe player to a Magister. Obviously as an elf i mean
Anyone can do it, but not everyone can pull it off. Any idea will have its naysayers, and as long as you and the people you’re RPing with are having fun(and not breaking ToS) then that’s all that matters.
The only caution I would offer is that the higher rank you wish to RP(magister being a fairly prestigious office in most cases), or the more “out there” the idea is, the harder your writing is going to have to work to get the general public on board with it. Hence my initial statement–anyone can RP it, but not everyone can RP it well.
Seeing a player with a Magister character IC is not an issue for me at all. I can’t see why not. However, like my friend in red above said, it can be harder to do it well. For example, if I interact with someone who is a Magister versus someone who is just a “normal” mage, I expect the character concept and writing to reflect that extended wisdom, knowledge and experience said Magister would have.
In the end, as long as you have fun, don’t break ToS, are invested in your character and find people who have fun with you, that’s really all that matters.
I’d argue if you want to RP your toon as powerful, then you should probably be able to back up that claim as a player.
One toon springs to mind. The guy for whatever reason RP’ed an incredibly confrontational, aggressive and boastful Orc Warrior - while being pretty damn inept at playing one. It would’ve been a great twist if it turned out his character was supposed to be an insecure fraud. Instead the toon came off as delusional and I don’t think that was intentional.
What do you mean by Magister? the Silvermoon definition which is the only one seen in game, is a lot different from the conventional Forgotten Realms meanings of the word.
It’s more along the Old English definition of executer of the Law.
