I was looking through the Ny’alotha guild progression and noticed 9661 guilds logging a boss kill in this tier.
When I last played ~2 years ago, this number was closer to 30,000.
Is this an accurate indication of decline in player base?

Did you do both na and eu. I thought warcraftlogs seperate them now.

I looked at both. Looking at US only, its only 3869 guilds.

It is nearing the end of an expansion is my thoughts. Most people take breaks near the end of an expansion than come back to the new one. Those guild numbers will most likely increase in shadowlands.
BFA was a pretty bad expansion. Shadowlands would have to be a truly amazing to get me to go back.

Look at the number of logs being uploaded, it’s rather large. Lots of people pug and lots of guilds running multiple groups. You can also check how many people are updating their addons most recently.

Not everyone uses a DPS meter, not everyone updates it for every new release and I don’t think China gets their addons off of curse.

Hmm… that’s interesting, as there are about 12,500 guilds that raided in Molten Core in classic WoW. That doesn’t include PUGs or private logs, obviously. And these are raids that require 40 people, unlike 10-25 people retail raids require.
I’m sure we will have more data available after BWL releases as to how many raiding guilds are remaining from that 12,500 number.
Not to mention BFA has been regarded as one of the worst expacs, and alot of people are playing classic as well. It all adds up. Maybe shadowlands will be good, but a TBC classic might pull even more numbers from shadowlands. There’s only one way to find out.

pretty much there is nothing until shadowlands prepatch which is bad planning by blizzard.people have already had their fill of 8.3 and are gone by now.my sub runs out in 35h and im not re subbing for 8.3 or classic wow.
classic wow isnt much better with only raid night logins and premade pvp.
both games are doing bad.

More than that, its nearing the end of an expansion with basically no redeeming qualities. Gameplay stale, expat specific mechanics were a total failure, worst story they ever managed to tell, professions gutted, many promises broken shamelessly. Basically the only thing good is their art design, which is admittedly pretty great.

I’m sure half of them are left. Many guilds are merging to stay afloat going into bwl and expect many more to disband once they hit a wall.

And every class has 6 I win buttons… which means every class is special… which means no class is special. There are no more class defining abilities. They’re all the same as all the others just in different clothing.
