I am not trolling or trying to start anything but Ive been playing wotlk recently and while yeah its fun, I miss the art style of retail and how the hits felt better, the sounds and how much more fast paced it feels compared to classic. I dont hate either and Im seriously considering pre purchasing dragonflight (I had no plans to buy it until I saw the reworked talent trees and I love how they look and it actually makes me excited to try some new classes id never consider trying). I just want some genuine input from actual players and not from reddit or some random site if its dead or dying or if its stable or of its just fine, I appreciate anyone that responds and thank you.
No, the game is not dead. I still find some cool people here and there. I mean, it could be more active for sure, but to say the game is “dead” (at least to me) is like saying there is little chance this game will live the current expansion. Of course this just be my take, ya will find different people will see it differently.
It’s in a content lul until next week and the prepatch event then it’ll be very busy.
I realized I posted on the wrong char as well, this is my actual main. Fury for life (fury being bad in wotlk actually killed my want to play)
No. Retail is not dead. Although, there are a bunch of low-pop servers so pick a full or high-pop one and you will likely have a better time.
Retail WoW has way to many servers for its player base which makes things seem much worse than they actually are. They need to find a better way of bringing players together.
There are 33 full servers, 90 high pop servers, 33 medium pop servers, and 90 low pop/new player servers.
This game is running 246 servers in Americas/Oceana with 123 being full or High pop so the game is not dead…but keeping 90 low pop/new players servers running is sort of frustrating, especially if you are stuck on one.

I have characters on Nesingwary, Moon Guard, and Wyrmrest Accord. On Nesingwary yeah there’s time the game feels dead but then switching over to Moon Guard or Wyrmrest the place is as lively as can be. Even in Oribos.
Retail still pretty busy. I did timewalking weekly on 5 chars and queue time as instant all the way through. Premade content might suffer a bit in these trying times of being in the last week of a season, but that’s because no one likes that crap and only play it when they have to.
Define dead and I can answer
Though I can say you better not play on “New Player” or “Low” population realms if you like jam packed realms
Hop on any of the top realms here
and you’ll be fine (do take note of which faction is dominant).
Game isn’t dead (in general, not sure about this patch), just don’t expect much interaction. Layers mean you don’t really see many people about either, so it depends on what you’re doing.
Isn’t Fury top tier in WotLK after Nax?
If I recall correctly it just keeps getting better as more gear is available up until ICC where it’s S tier in PvE.
Says the level ten no post alt.
well of course retail is dead. We’re in shadowlands.
Fury is not bad in WOTLK its just not good till the end
Yes it clearly is, and will get worse because everybody that really knew anything about the game is gone from the company now. The only aspect that can keep it alive at this point is doing seasons for classic.
Or they could turn it into absolute egregious pay to win, and rely on a very small demo of whales for income.
Or both maybe.
You’re probably not gonna find many people playing when a new expansion is right around the corner as there isn’t much point in playing. You might see more people during pre-patch but when the new expansion is actually available the population will become alive again, like it normally does.
its just fine, like the last 10 or so years
Im only dead on the inside
At the moment the game is pretty dead. That’s what normally happens at the end of an expansion. It should pick up dramatically next week, after the prepatch starts.
Come on in the water is just right
Probably less ppl around now due to taking a break before pre patch or df
