Just trying to figure out what is considered an exploit and what isn’t? We’ve all heard rumors of people who have received bans or some form of punishment for game environment exploits, especially when it comes to city guards.
With that being said I don’t mind the PvP at all. I am just looking for clarification on whether Alliance sitting on Org Rooftops (Ie the AH/Inn) to avoid being hit by guards to pvp on the Horde down below is considered an exploit or not.
When I go to Stormwind or Ironforge I have no such luck unfortunately. If any NPC even thinks they see/hear me 20 Stormwind guards are summoned instantly to my location to clap my soft Tauren cheeks.
I tried to open a ticket from in-game to ask this question but the automated system in-game makes it more difficult to talk to a real person than getting in touch with someone at the DMV or to file an insurance claim.
I think it is considered an exploit.
I am not sure if it only pertained to neutral areas like ratchet or not?
Hope someone gives you a better more clear answer, but i got the idea that preventing the NPC’s from being able to attack you, while you attacked was considered an exploit
I don’t think that it is an exploit. When in gadgetzan and on rooftops guards are bugged out and do not attack. It is one of the reasons they have them knock back in future updates/expansions.
The roof is an unguarded area of Orgrimmar that is accessible to everybody. They also added roof top guards at one point.
Exactly this. It’s not an exploit since anyone can just walk up on the roofs in Org, and it doesn’t bug out the guards. The guards just don’t go up there.
That was a response in Customer Support related to something similar in Gadgetzan.
However, there is a difference in Gadgetzan which is that the guards can go after the person being attacked, preventing them from responding with their own range attack (at risk of being killed by a guard and, I believe, taking a durability hit). In a faction city, that isn’t quite the situation. A Horde guard would not attack a Horde player. All actions to engage the person on the roof would be free of that risk.
I know I can walk up on the Bank roof easily, as well as drop onto roofs on the western side, but how does one “walk up on” the AH house roof or the Inn roof? Is there actually terrain that makes it easy to hop up?
Considering pathing allows people to access most of the roofs in Org, I’m pretty sure it’s fine since guards won’t have pathing issues (which is what is generally abused in the reportable instances of this).
I don’t think it’s an exploit as it happened quite alot back in vanilla too.
Back then if there was an Alliance raid on Orgrimmar and if Org was the last of the 3 horde cities to be raided, the raiders will hang around in org after the horde boss is dead, often on the rooftops till they are totally wiped out.
This was apparently a common enough problem that Blizzard eventually had to add stealthed NPCs to patrol those spots. I remember running around the rooftops for fun when I was brand new to the game and spotting one and being all amazed, like I was with everything in this game back then.
