Is PvP dead?

I want your opinion on the popularity of wow pvp since we now know there is over 1M players and only 65k players touched pvp in SS with a bit less in 3s and a lot less in 2s.
Should blizzard go back to the bfa style of mixing pvp and pve players together with the same gear to push more pve’ers to pvp like they did and have over 100k players that touches pvp like in BFA ?

Yep no one playing, hybrids get out healed by pure dps, healers don’t want to play this crap meta. It’s dead

Bfa and SL started to kill off pvp because it forced pve players to do something they didn’t want to do. Pvpers, dps players, finished off pvp by begging for shuffle.

LFG is absolutely dead, even on a weekend peak hours there’s hardly groups. The few times I’ve gotten a group of we qued into the same handful of teams at 1950-2k mmr. I’m sure shuffle will stay fairly popular if they stop tampering with mmr.

Idk if it’s dead or not because I just find long-term teammates and have fun …

Hrm. You only talking rated PvP?

I think a lot more players are doing PvP then we would expect. I think the bigger issue is PvP is spread way too thin. We need less game modes overall, including in PvE.

It’s too much. Would have been great having these game modes in the past, but now they are picking away at an already dwindling player base. Hopefully next expansion will bring some players back. If not, i’d say wow is going to start rapidly declining.

The only time pvers were “forced” to do something they didnt want to do was the first couple seasons of Slands when pvp gear was actually good. And pvp participation was mega high then despite being quite unbalanced. Dragging my raid guild through rbgs to get them 1800 vault gear the first couple seasons was pretty fun. A lot of them actually went on enjoying pvp after.

It amuses me how people expected “soloqueue” would be a good wait to meet people and push actual arenas, but what happened was, most players realized if they can’t hit glad they may as well focus on shuffle and now use 3s as a gearing bracket.

Considering its 2 PM and i’ve been in a brawl que for 35 mins and solo shuffle que for 25 mins, yes.

To be fair it is 2 PM on a Monday and on top of that most east coasters are forced to accommodate the west coast degen schedules for queues.

Yea, it’s a lot of things.

Speaking personally, not that I wouldn’t like to get glad still, but I haven’t tried since they made it a 2400 achievement. Just… lost its luster. I’d rather see where I’m ranked overall for my spec. While RSS isn’t 100% fair (lots of RNG), it’s still a decent path to see how you compare to other players.

I think they still badly need to improve how LFG works, but I doubt that will happen. LFG should work some what like RSS. Put what specs/classes you want to play with OR better yet, what comps. Put a rating range in there and a gear ilvl and boom! You have a useful tool. Also allow players to look while offline. RSS just made playing arena more accessible. I don’t have to wait for 2 other people to be on and I can just queue whenever.

Those should be the takeaways for blizzard, but who know is they’ll do anything… Maybe introduce another brawl of some type.

The whole LFG tool is so bad. It is beyond dated and the fact they haven’t even attempted to rework it is tragic.

The base UI doesn’t even let you sort by roles or anything. It’s insane.

Also I am pretty sure evokers still bug out and show random icons sometimes.

Doesn’t help they have made the current and last season glad mount objectively worse than s1, really ensuring motivation to get it is even lower.

Yep. My guess is it’s either not on their radar or it’s way too low on their priority. It’s for lack of people to play with AND the incentive todo so that is killing this game. It’s not a place for friends to gather any more. When they killed server identities and battle groups, the communities in this game just started to die. They need to make connecting with people better, but while I enjoy RSS, it’s just made the game and players are bit more jaded.

Heh, well, I think since S1 SL, glad just hasn’t had it’s importance.

Consider this… I just had some warrior talk trash to me in a 1900 RSS on my alt because they were saying warriors were bad.

“You’re a F****** duelist”

So check their exp. S1 SL glad. Sorry Blizz, that isn’t selling the achievement for me.

the issue isnt mixing pve and pvp. keeping them apart is fine. the issue is FUN, pvp is unfun currently and has been since SL. the pacing and meta shifted in SL from a nice steady pace in bfa and legion to being a fast paced cooldown fest with people doing insane percentages of peoples HP in a matter of a few globals.

damage needs spread out and pacing during cooldowns needs reduced. its unfun and killing any interest for returning or new players let alone frustrating long time ones. its also starting to creep into the more casual bg scene like bgs as every bg becomes a snowbally mess of premades or just teams who pop off wiping one team off the map making everyone just give up due to sheer power the other team has through a number of factors.

this is fine aslong as hybrids continue do the same damage as dps. (which they do)

It started with the pvp weekly chest in BFA and not going for it was the equivalent to giving up a lockout. They’re essentially forced to participate and saying they weren’t or putting it in quotes is like saying players aren’t “forced” to enchant their gear, conquest cap, or do anything else that equates to significant player power. Azerite armor was reset locked and by far the most impactful gear you could get. All of my friends who I carried in 2s/3s hated it and stopped as soon as they could.

Okay and how exactly did this kill pvp?

Feels just as healthy as ever. 3v3 queues are often less than 30 seconds. Teammates feign complaints when it rarely goes over 60 seconds.

RSS is just an awful implementation and should be removed / reiterated. LFG could use some improvement, too, apparently, but I don’t have need of it because I play with IRL friends.

Once you’ve got a group together, playing the game is non-stop. PvP only sucks when you have to find people (again, solo queue and LFG).

Please never get the chance to influence Blizzard in any way and actually kill WoW PvP. BFA was the worst PvP I can remember. Worse than BC’s advent of resilience and dampener games.

PvP right now is close to if not the best it’s ever been, but it still could use more attention to be great.

Shadowlands had some great design choices and high level goals. Namely, that people die. Despite some failures, Shadowlands started us on the path that I see as a healthy trend ever since. It was the wakeup call from BFA.

Bring a large portion of people into a game mode that they don’t enjoy and take feedback from people who don’t want to be there. Continue to balance the game around one shots and random damage because needing setups or damping to kill someone isn’t fun for the average player. Force them into that game mode the next expansion and repeat the process. Implement soloq for people that can’t or won’t learn how to play the game at a remedial level, the average player can’t do their rotation much less interrupt more than once if at all, and watch as a majority of people quit playing because they’re stuck in 30-60min wait times since nobody wants to heal this.
