Is prot paladin worth?

Main tank here. In Dragonflight Season 4, I reached 3k io with my Brewmaster Monk, and this season I’m at 2.4k io with my Guardian Druid.

However, I’m experiencing burnout with my Guardian Druid. I can’t stand pressing the same four buttons over and over in every dungeon. I tried playing my Brewmaster this season, but I absolutely hated all the changes, including the Brew’s self-heal, which is now pitiful and depends on the healer stepping in fairly often.

During Dragonflight, I also tried playing Warrior, but for some reason, it didn’t click for me. I only played it for about a week and pushed keys up to +15 (which back in Season 1 was more like a +5 today).

I’m now looking at Protection Paladin. What do you think about the gameplay? Is it engaging?

If you want more buttons you came to the right place.

Main damage and active mitigation buttons:

  • Judgement
  • Avenger’s Shield
  • Shield of the Righteous
  • Blessed Hammer
  • Consecration
  • Word of Glory

Defensives:

  • Ardent Defender
  • Eye of Tyr
  • Sentinel
  • Guardian of Ancient Kings
  • Divine Shield
  • Lay on Hands
  • Holy Armament

Thank you my friendo

Even though I’m not a prot nor tank main I have manage to tank to 10s in previous seasons.

Prot is looking really really strong right now and has high chances of overtaking Prot Warrior as the new meta tank.

As a healer I’ve always loved prot for the following reasons:

  • Brez.
  • tons of utility, mainly BoP, Spellward and Sac.
  • the tank with the most interrupts, able to almost carry groups with Divine toll+ avengers shield.
  • off healing that while not meant to be spammable, can help the healer in grim scenarios
  • With Lightsmith, you can also use your Holy Bulwarks and Sacred Weapons as externals to prevent people from dying. No other tank can do this (well prot war can, but its intervene absorb is not nearly as good).

Prot is THE support tank. If you like that fantasy, 100% give it a try.
