Is playing wow on steam deck against tos?

Just saw the tos about against steam link or remote play but what about the hand held devices?? I was planning to play wow on the steam deck while I’m in bed or watching tv but I wanna make sure before I get it I won’t get banned against tos. Is there anyway I can be sure it safe?

I mean, I did it a few times and never caught hands. You’d be better off asking Customer Support, though.

Good question.
I was going to look into one of these (by Lenovo) at this years Black Friday but would be good to know if it is or not. I would suspect not but…

Let me know if you find anything out.

Technically its against tos because of remote playing (goes in hand with botting) but there is no way they will ever find out. They can’t even ban bots

Well I am not sure the one I’m looking at is remote. I don’t know about the steam thing but mine is (or will be) a true handheld running windows 11.

I might be wrong but as far as I remember steam deck is remote gaming.
If it isn’t, or just generally if it isn’t a remote handheld device then its fine to play WoW on. They even added controller support to retail (dont know about Classic using retail client)

It runs a full windows 11 o/s. It is the Lenovo Legion Go.

Then there is nothing that goes against ToS. You’re using a device with native Windows OS.

but is steamdeck actual remote play or do you get gamefiles on the actual steamdeck and you playing it via there with its own IP address and just using an equivalent to a gamepad?

I’m asking because i don’t know.

But I’ve been seeing a lot of random reddit posts people showing off WoW on steamdeck while sitting in airports for hours xD

They do not care what you play the game on.

I don’t know either. As far as I know (not owning one, just know friends) it is considered remote playing.

I would not think so either

Honestly if I were OP (or you) I would just do it. There risk of them banning you for that is less than 0% and even if they did, it would most likely just be a very short ban with a possible appeal.

You play it locally. The Steam Deck has decent enough hardware to run WoW without streaming it from another PC. 16GB of ram, 4 core Zen 2 CPU, and an RDNA iGPU. You’ll just be running it on Linux instead of Windows with the help of Proton, unless you install Windows and dual boot.

If that’s the case, then steamdeck WoW is totally within ToS.
There are no actual rules on what device you must play, or that it must be keyboard with a mouse.

And quite recently, they have adjusted their anticheat not to accidently ban handheld/controller users.

I’m interested in how well the Lenovo one will work. I’d be nice to have something that can be usable that I don’t have to lug around my giant gaming laptop any more.

Guess I’ll find out this fall.

Oh ok cool! So I can use the handheld steam deck just fine without getting ban?? Ok cool then I’ll look into it! Thanks everyone who responded and help!

I think I’d ask either in the CS forum or the technical support forum before you proceed to get an “official” word.
