Based on the streams, classic dungeons look boring. No cc required, no worry about composition of the party. We’ll have to form groups that are ten levels below the recommended for them to be exciting.
This isn’t the vanilla that I remember, but I started in 2004. Should they have chosen a more challenging (earlier?) patch?
It would be unfortunate if we end up having to play retail for a challenge lol.
No vanilla was much easier in retrospect cause all the fights were simple mechanically, and they couldn’t have chosen a different patch cause 1.12 was the only data set they have that was mostly complete.
What is going to be ironic is when the same people asking and saying this actually play and experience how much slower and more difficult (and how much more fun) Vanilla was and is. I guess we can look forward to all the “nerf the grind” posts once it launches.
And others of us will keep saying what we’re saying now: #nochanges.
You remember it being harder because you ran through the swirly, not in a group, and were killed by the first mob you seen, not realizing where the hell you even were.
Fast forward over a decade, this game has, and will be easier for us even on the same difficulty it was back then. When WoW was realized I only remember star wars galaxies and everquest being the only other BIG MMORPGS out there, besides the idea and play of dungeons and dragons… So in a sense, everyone playing was playing a new genre, let alone a new game.
It will be easier this time around. it will be harder than retail dungeons. It will be more rewarding than retail, but less rewarding than when we all first played. I think the lesson for you in particular, but as well as many others, enjoy this game and classic for what it is, and help build a strong community. Finally we have a game where the grind is long, especially for legendarys, but when you get those legendarys and epic gear, they will not be rinsed/washed away from a future patch or expansion. Its finally a MMORPG again.
Yes it is because the purpose of content progression is to have each tier as the end tier for a few months or more. The 1.12 versions are significantly easier than the originals because of better itemization, talents, and a few nerfs to the content itself. What we need is buffed content like the Nostalrius servers did (you know, the ONLY REASON we are getting classic). They were by NO means overtuned at all, but felt like a proper vanilla experience.
This is incorrect. I’ve recently played a Vanilla server. I have friends in the beta. It’s objectively much harder than retail - and more fun. You BfA babies are going to get a shock, but a good one.
I came to WoW in alpha/beta after years in EverQuest. I remember it being much easier actually, because EQ was hard in comparison. Vanilla WoW was a breeze coming off that.
But honestly, I have no interest in all the flexing. It’s just a better game.
There is more grind for everything but overall difficulty is pretty low, cause again most of what makes the things in Classic hard is that you gotta grind, two drops per boss for 40 people it’s going to take time to get everyone geared, but the fights will be easy.
Don’t forget grand daddy UO. Lol.
I agree with the rest of what you’re saying. Just going in and knowing the basic controls puts you light years ahead of yourself from the first time you say down and moved the mouse.
First time i logged into UO i didn’t even know how to speak in game. Lol. There’s a huge difference between a first time noob and a returning player. Yea we may be rusty and forget some stuff but its like riding a bike.
Haha. Why did i just get a picture of my current self launching a Mongoose off a ramp and crashing and burning? Yea. That is right. No helmet. No pads. https://giphy.com/gifs/bike-ramp-hmb-D8xa9PoejcbpS
Edit to add: I don’t know what ramp these two geniuses were trying to jump but definitely needed more speed. Lol. My prior knowledge at play here.
Edit 2:Really bad carpentry too. More prior knowledge.
That concept it the reason it’s not going to be hard cause we already know, you aren’t going to see a random blue and equip it just cause it’s blue. You know what stats you need ultimately your going to know where things are. A good example is Rhok’delar right back in the day you had to go hunt to find where that petrified leaf turn in was, however most people now know where to turn it in.
Easy is a loaded word. Vanilla was always straight forward even without the nerfs. It was just more time consuming and had a smaller margin for error since things didn’t die super fast.
15 years of experience, knowledge and skills are hard things to erase. The game is going to be just as hard as it was back then. But, we now carry with us the massive advantage of having already been there before. Yes, some Classic players will be completely new, and it will show. Thats where us die hard and experienced grognards come in, to teach and train.
If blizzard magically “found” older patch data that shows mobs of higher stats and difficulty, I doubt they would even admit it. They clearly are only concerned with accessibility rather than compelling play.
Yep. We, for the most part, were too timid and locked in group think.
My hunters pet tanked much of WC after our tank dc’d. At first we stood there waiting for him to log back on, and after ten minutes, I said “heal my pet” and off we went.
And this was around 1.8, not 1.12. Now, people might say “1.2 was hard”, but I don’t believe that either. Not anymore.
Note: I started I. March/April of 2005, so around patch 1.3 or 1.4 and never played 1.1/1.2. but that goes to show how fast they were changing the game and why 1.12 is just the way they have to go, even if they have the data which I am inclined to believe they do not have
