Is pandaria more based around japaneese history or chineese?

Asking for a TRP

With no samurai, paper houses or Japanese legendary creatures, I’d say its pretty obvious.

To my knowledge it’s more Chinese than any other Asian ethnicity.

aww dont feel that way. I frequently miss the obvious, and just put it down to bad eyesight :sunglasses:

yes

China in Japanese clothing.

No joke, they are Pandas, a Chinese animal, wearing Samurai armor, which is Japanese.

The sandals they wear are also Japanese, imo.

The land and buildings are based off Chinese architecture, with the Serpent’s Spine being the most obvious example.

Also, Mount Neverest is pretty obvious too lol.

Dont recall seeing any kimonos in MoP. Would like to though.

id love it if they reflected the actual cost of kimonos. like only a max level tailor with super skills can make it and sell them on the AH for hundred of thousands.

Nah, but we’ve been getting sarongs though lately.

There’s always one on the TP, along with those hoods and cloaks.

Is what Emperor Shaohao wears considered a kimono? I’d cop that mog

Where would we be today if the movie had been called “Kung Fu Murloc”

It’s funny to me that we never meet him, but based on his actions (Burdens of Shaohao), he might be my favorite racial leader out of all of them.

Dude was a young emperor, that knew what he had to do for his people, the riches could wait.

Chinese mainly, but with a bunch of inspiration also pulled from other Asian cultures and iconography.

We meet his spirit though, there’s a quest Kun-Lai you have to rope up the mountain to his grave and he talks about the past and he is also in the Timeless Isle. He’s the only Pandaren who wears that kind of clothing though (obviously, he was the emperor)

No, its just a robe, in effect, although its close. The appearance closest to the male kimono is the Jedi robes, with the multi levels of robes topped by an open long sleeved outer robe. It was actually what Lucas based the look on.

Dang, I forgot about those! And yeah, he hosts that event on Timeless Isle where you fight the Celestials.

I remember that quest too, on the mountain, it was fun.

If they had updated katana and samurai armor, remix would get even more people. Missed opportunity.

It’s kind of a big east-asian blend, but predominantly Chinese.

I’d say the Jinyu have the biggest Japanese influence, being Koi fish and working with a vaguely shinto-esque belief system with river spirits and such.
