BFD gear, esp on the caster side, is better than anything people can get in dungeons leading up to the new level 40 raid. It pretty much makes nothing exciting about farming out the old fun SM gears etc. for a lot of classes. Is this perhaps going to be addressed by tweaking what some of the items’ stats are so there is another wave of getting some ‘pre-bis’ items?
I feel like melee since weapon damage is major won’t have that problem as much, but it’s hard to get excited about getting a level 38-40 caster item that has 4 more int when you lose 10 to 20 (if you lose tier bonus) spellpower .
Just seems like casters already fully geared now will be very much - boring grind to 40, nothing to get excited about acquiring until next raid. Hopefully some new crafting patterns at least or something to kind of look forward to achieving on the gear side.

BFD gear is better than level 26-39 leveling gear for virtually everyone, with the exception of melee weapons.
At 40, leather/mail is completely replaced by mail/plate for Shaman/Warrior/Hunter/Paladin so there isn’t much of a pre-raid grind there, either. You will maybe buy some green items from the AH, then just wait for Gnomeregan drops of your next armor class.
youll need the mana pool from the higher int pieces even if you lose some sp.

Your BFD gear will qualify as quasi-pre raid bis for Gnomer, yes. Maybe only Plate Tanks will have to consider getting plate gear because its twice as much armor as mail gear.
I don’t see this as a problem at all tbh though. Most people will see the dungeons while leveling anyways thanks to having done all of the quests for gold in Phase 1.
Well the way their doing SoD is that each phase is basically just a mini expansion.
So just like every other expansion if you’re in BiS from the raid you won’t need much until you get to the next max level and start that raid.

Most of the bfd is not near as good as people think at 40
it’s not really a problem. just boring in that 99.9% of gear in phase 2 will be useless lol.
For casters it’s definitely going to come down to int vs spellpower.
Aside from random affixes on green gear there is virtually no spellpower gear in dungeons at 40.
As an example full tier 1 Mages get 128 spell power from tier alone and with BFD buff I’m actually above that at level 25.
yes - and there will be no catch-up. i hope you put in the effort this tier.
The catchup is running BFD, it’s not like they’re disabling it and it’ll be even more of a cake walk after 25.

that’s a very valid point. in the classic mentality of all content being relevant. Seems fair.
I punch mage into sod sixtyupgrades with 40 gear and the only uncontested bfd pieces is pearl, kelris neck/ring.
Even hypnotic blade and the mage class quest offhand is just slightly below the epic staff
